It really puts the whole coaching search in perspective for me, too. Maybe they really had no choice but to interview everyone. Whose opinion in the organization would you trust to limit the field to 3-5 names?

Regardless if they decided Johnson is the guy, they are twiddling their thumbs until Detroit is out.  Might as well ask other guys some questions

I kinda wonder if this is actually a meaningful bomb thrown into the process that could change how George operates.

(Ben Johnson is not a trace client)

What bothers me is everything is set up to have some oversight in the coaching search. Great, now what about the actual football operations? We don’t trust Poles to select a coach, but we trust him to build a team? If all these steps have to be put in place, there’s no point in keeping him.

I think with a different org it would be like "eh, new rules its hard to decide quick, may as well interview guys as favors/info gathering"

With bears it feels like they inflexibly rely on structure to provide the look of credibility. If they were meeting a bunch but were like "there is a LOT of smoke around bears going all out for johnson", then it would be different. But feels like mccarthy and others could go off the board and bears would be like "well we have to do our round 3s according to our schedule"

The TLR comp would be to hire Parcells right now.

The maddening thing is the Bears have this structure that they adhere do that is obviously very broken yet they are unwavering.

That ESPN sorry read to me like the NFL was ok with the connections as long as there was diversity in the pieces of the puzzle. I am not certain the NFL cares how dumb the Bears are as long as they follow proper protocols

My fear is the Johnson is not experienced enough to build a staff and overcome the ineptitude of that front office.  I think that was what did in Nagy.  My hope would be that McCarthy would know how to navigate that better.  I felt the same way with John Fox.  He was younger than McCarthy when hired.  Man did he disappear after Chicago.

I think Johnson gets the bag from the Raiders.  If it doesn't work he can blame the Raiders.  He could do the same with the Bears but I think the Raiders would pay more.

The Bears are in a prime position to get a legitimate coach under market value in McCarthy.

The refs were so gregarious. Even Aikman was going off. Two drives and both led to scores and were the difference.

It was a horrid look for the NFL or any sport if you don't want fans to think games are fixed.

So…this is not a draft pick comment, just observing - Jayden Daniel and the Washington offense have simply been incredible in this game. This is like watching Brady, I have no idea how some of these guys are open, how he’s finding them, and how he gets these throws in, but this is a magnificent performance.
