I don't think this is even an overpay for Dalman. I think everyone thought he'd get in the neighborhood of $12-13 million a year. Cushenberry got similar AAV and more guaranteed money last year. And I think Dalman is better.

Now shore up the D-line and the draft can be wide open.

I've s%*#-talked Poles about not addressing the offensive line the past 2 years and he's finally delivered.

Even if it's later than desired, he at least seems to learn from his mistakes (relative to other Chicago GMs)

This - unless you really love a DE or LT sitting at 10 - I think you move down.  Quite frankly I'd be intrigued with a trade down with the Bengals involving Hendrickson.

Seems like there is a lot of DT/DE talent in this draft, and a lot of guys in that 15-40 range.

Right now, they have 10, 39, 41, 72. I think I'd rather them to have like 20, 39, 41, 50, 72

DT Javon Kinlaw just signed a 3/45 deal with Washington. Had 4.5 sacks last year as a rotational player with the Jets.

Draft DL/DT. It's stupid expensive in FA.

If this is where the market holds out - than I could see them still signing someone - but more 1Yr type of deal, or pivoting to add another wideout or TE on a short-term deal.

I agree with this entirely.  There is also a lot of Oline, RB, and TE depth in this draft - which are other positions Bears should leverage, so I could see them going DE, OT, RB, DT, TE or some combination of that.  This is where I'd be fine signing another TE instead -> than you can just focus on DE/OT/RB/DT/OG or something like that.

I caveat - safety and LB are other positions if you see someone you like by all means (DB's too - can never have too many).

We desperately need WR talent.  At minimum a #3 WR and a developmental player.

DLine first, then WR and RB is my hope.

D-Line is a bigger need, especially at EDGE, but I’d argue that WR is the next biggest need on the roaster.  Just completely devoid of talent after Moore & Odunze.  I feel like a cheaper free agent like Reynolds and a 3rd round pick would be a good way to address the position.

I think given strength of this years draft you could go heavy dline, oline and an rb - than maybe sign a vet db and a vet wideout and te to short term deals in free agency. Keeps a ton of flexibility and gives you depth whose also allowing you to target youth in pockets with most talent in draft.

This is a good move - ascending player with a lot of upside. Hopefully Allen dan get most out of him. Going to get paid for his upside vs past production which is always a risk….but love it. Tons of flexibility heading into draft.

Welp - I am going to guess we'll see them eventually sign a wideout - but probably not for a few days or longer once the market has settled. Can't argue that they didn't spend and they invested money in the right positions (the lines).  Hopefully they identified the right players.

Do we have any money left?  Seems like three signings would mostly wipe us out.  Obviously there will be some cuts coming that add more space.

I think with some restructures they can find a way for a few lower end signings - I'm thinking like 1Yr $5M wideout type of moves - not crazy money.  They can probably structure a few other things if they needed to.

They can structure the contracts in a way that take up maybe only 31-32 million this year. They don't have to pay Jackson next year, so they'll just kick the can down the road on some of these signings.

The Dayo and Jarrett signings signal to me that Allen wants a lot of versatility on the line. It's also odd that they released Walker because he would give them some of the same versatility at half the price.

Packers fans really wanted Odeyingbo apparently. His contract is really more for his potential and versatility than it is for his production.

Personally, I'd rather have Sweat at $18-20 mil a year than Dayo at $16 mil. I'm sure Poles had interest, but maybe he didn't want to get that high in AAV.

They are paying for future upside and I think they are hopinlg Odeyingbo has more pass rush than Walker so can be splashier and a bit better against the run as well.  Walker was flexible but in general meh at most everything.  But his body type was similar and Odeyingbo may end up being the same, we shall see. But I like the combination of bodytypes and talent Bears now have - between Jarrett & Odeyingbo, plus Billings, Sweat, and Dexter (who in my mind is still ascending).  If you add one more Day 1/Day 2 pick at a minimum and that should be a pretty good group - and one that has a pretty good balance of youth & veteran leadership.

My guess is it would be a DE if they went early in the draft (vs. DT given they have Jarret, Dexter, Billings, and Odeyingbo (who can flex interior on passing downs), plus they have the other 3rd rounder whose name escapes me from 2 years ago who hasn't flashed yet.
