I’m nervous this pushes kc to re sign Trey smith

I mean if it's between Smith or Bolton they should keep Smith. You can get off ball LBs way more easily. When the Bucs kicked their ass in 2021, they went and signed Thuney that off-season.

Seems halftime show was a lot more interesting than the game...

"From "Uncle Sam" Jackson introducing the performance to a wild appearance by Serena Williams, SZA, bold political statements in front of Trump, and of course, the Drake of it all -- Lamar had everyone talking with his Super Bowl Halftime Show."   tmz.com

"Lamar is canny: He knows that it’s a balancing act to be able to chide America’s anti-Blackness and “respectability” politics, and what’s needed on the opposite end of the scale is a gold bar of drama. That’s what he accomplished with his performance, which was full of attention-drawing slights at Drake. He brought out tennis legend Serena Williams, Drake’s rumored ex who inspired a different beef between Drake and rapper Common, to C-walk during the big song, and he wore a diamond lowercase “a” chain most likely to represent the lyric “A minor” (accompanied by some flagbearers running across the field with flags depicting the same lowercase “a” being held by children). As if that weren’t enough, some fans also believe that the other tunes chosen for Lamar’s setlist are meant to be sneak Drake disses."

What a boring Super Bowl, it was a blowout and a few Chiefs garbage time touchdowns. I was so glad Brady stopped talking after blowing Mahomes for much of the night. Now onto the new league year with free agency in March.

Yeah - I think this increases likelihood that Smith is harder to get. Not that in a free agent class that is devoid of high end talent it is ever easy to land your target anyway.  But Smith seemed like one of those where Bears would say you know what - this is worth outbidding everyone on.

Chiefs are in trouble

22nd in space, 15M showing available now.  If Kelce retires, it would free up money but you are losing a huge piece of the offense and hoping the next guy(watson?) can step in seamlessly.

Their effective cap space is -$2 million. They're gonna need to make some cuts. If Kelce retires, they can save $17 million. If he gets cut and re-signs a cheaper deal, they save maybe $10 million?

Either way, I guess everyone who needs a guard with cap space needs the Chiefs to not franchise tag Trey Smith. They totally can and trade him like they did with Sneed last year. I think Sneed ended up going for a 3rd rounder. You'd think Smith might cost a bit more and you'd have to pay Smith $100 million.

And Gray

Nic Bolton is the next obvious player to go...

They'll likely restructure Mahomes deal. Put it all in bonuses so he gets the money up front from the organization and it won't count against the cap. Would open up like 52 million or so. They'll likely keep one of Smith or Bolton.

Picking the Eagles . 33-27.

What's everyone's pick ?

Expand

Easy as reading the tea leaves. Eagles had a lot of momentum headed into the game . When you start playing your best football in the playoffs that's usually the winner.

Got a nice parlay win once the score went over 48.5.

The Bears had a chance to land that monster (Jalen Carter). They were on the clock with the No. 9 pick in the 2023 draft when they traded back one spot with the Eagles, who selected Carter out of Georgia. General manager Ryan Poles drafted right tackle Darnell Wright with the No. 10 pick. With the fourth-round pick in 2024 the Bears received in the trade, Poles drafted punter Tory Taylor.

The Bears didn’t want any part of Carter after a precipitous fall in his draft stock. Rated as the top player in the draft by ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Carter was involved in a fatal accident on Jan. 15, 2023, when a car he was alleged to be racing against crashed, killing a Georgia teammate and a football staffer. The next month, he left the NFL Scouting Combine early because he was being charged. He pleaded no-contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing.

Because Carter left the combine, scouts took particular interest in his pro day. He showed up out of shape and couldn’t finish all the drills.

The Bears held the No. 1 pick and were in dire need of a defensive tackle after Poles had tried a year earlier to sign Larry Ogunjobi, only for him to fail his physical. Their trade with the Panthers moved the Bears down to the ninth pick, where Carter was still available. It didn’t matter. After the draft, Poles said he didn’t want to comment specifically about Carter, but he said, ‘‘Character’s always going to be important for us.’’ The Bears had enough questions about Carter’s to pass on his considerable skills.
