Please for the love of god, don’t think your OL is now set and you’re able to draft Jeanty at 10. Please don’t be that stupid.

Pass.  Poles doesn’t seem to understand that the Chiefs aren’t going to trade you one of their OL unless he is soon to be on the decline.  32 years old.  Come on, Poles.  Enough with this makeshift OL bullshit.

Thuney is a cap space casualty after the Smith tag.

I know, but 32 years old already.  Shredded in the Super Bowl, albeit the Eagles.  The Chiefs are trading him to upgrade.  Poles is once again taking the short-term approach to building an OL.  On a one year deal and looking to be paid another big contract at age 33.

You sure about that? They have been to 3 straight SB’s, just franchised Trey Smith…there is only so much to go around. I would bet a fair share of money the player replacing Thuney in KC doesn’t get named an All-Pro. Want to make that bet?

I don’t like the idea of giving up a 4th round pick and a new big contract to what will be a 33 year old OL after this season.

Eh...it's a 4th next year and you can always make the money hurt not as much. Plus, seems like he will be the cultural leader in that room which the Bears have needed for quite a while.

Given the state of the OL last season, and the new staff being brought in that will hopefully lead to a large culture shift…it’s a welcome addition.

Still think they will sign a center, too. I could see them going o-line in one of the round 2 picks. Hope it's not Jeanty....but in Ben Johnson I trust.

This reminds me of way back when they signed Andy Heck.  Dude was not a spring chicken but he showed up and just dominated his side of the line until he was done

I'm on the Ben Johnson train but I'll jump off quickly if they use the 10th overall on a RB. Just because Gibbs "worked out" doesn't mean it was the right selection, even then. Just can't get on board with it. And they could take him, and it could all work out, and I'll be happy the Bears are winning. But philosophically, it's still the wrong pick at 10.

I'll use a slightly more recent example in John Tait. He came in at 29, so slightly different, but came from the Chiefs, and was a very welcome addition and played well in his 5 years here

Yea him as well, and Ruben Brown also Fred Miller to a lesser extent.  All very valuable lineman who were towards the latter end of their careers but gave the bears some really good years

Both guys (Heck and Tait) ended their careers in their age 33 seasons.  Thuney will turn 33 next November.

Joe Thuney was graded last season by Pro Football Focus as the league’s 21st best pass-blocking offensive lineman.

At LT where they played him or at guard which is more natural position?

If its for all OL, I'll take that.

I assume it is a combined score for all OL positions he played last year.  21 is good.  I just fear Poles giving him a big extension and watching him fall off a cliff due to his age.

Who cares they have a rookie QB they can afford that. It’s nfl contracts. Thuney is great. The FA guards are ass, this lets them try to find guards thru draft / converting Kiran

They have a lot of cap space a 3 or 4 year deal would work. They need to get a center and ill he happy.

I don’t like trading picks - but these are good trades. Creates depth and upgrades oline while bringing in some vets to also stabilize and help locker room / system.

Last year we traded these types of picks for backups - which was stupid - this year you get two interior linemen who will start and you know you have them where as free agency is an unknown.

Now they should have a lot of flexibility to go dline or oline early in draft but not have to start a 2nd round guard (for example) asap. Let him grow into role or take your LT and a guard with your 2nd or 3rd.

Tney have cap space so now curious if they so go Dalman too. But this is the start - need to also have some more young talent in oline pipeline too.
