The Athletic: Must Read article on Jerry Reinsdorf/White Sox

It is worth noting there are PLENTY of just recently fired people besides Hahn and Haber who could be sources for this article.  Probably plenty wondering how if a dude who completely failed as his previous job was getting a promotion, why were they getting fired.

True. I wonder why any of them stayed long enough to get fired? Isn't it odd that people voluntarily stay?

It's called getting a paycheck and if you get fired there is a reasonable chance that you can qualify for unemployment insurance.

And there's sending out your resume and finding another job before that happens. In most industries it's easier to get a job when you have a job. Maybe baseball is different?

I like to imagine it's someone like Brooks Boyer because he's realized he can't promote s%*#.

I guess it's easy to say if you never walked in those shoes.   It's not as easy to change your livelihood.

That same approach with pitching can also create a 90 loss season.

Give AJ credit for wanting to win every game.

Getz would be all anxious to trade Skubal.

I hope the next step the Tigers take is to spend some money.

How is he useful?

He scouted for the amateur draft this spring.  He saw all the players in the mix for the 1st round pick most multiple times and a few of the guys in the mix for the 2nd round picks along with players in the Chicago area.  He also frequently flies to Arizona and Kannapolis to work individually with young hitters specifically George Wolkow.  Calling a guy like Jim Thome useless is one of the most asinine things I've ever read on the board and boy is that saying something.

Been a long time since that Kelenic thread has been posted in.

He also universally well liked by nearly everyone connected to the sport of baseball or state of Illinois.

ONE thing to agree with Harold on this entire season now.

Well the White Sox have had such solid draft results and minor league hitter development that obviously this person is useful, we need the exact kind of results from minor league hitters that we are getting right now. Who could possibly find issue with the way the White Sox minor league hitters are performing? As soon as he gives an interview saying no one wants to win more than Reinsdorf we should promote him. Worked for the last guy.

Don't think he has any interest in that type of time and travel commitment.  And pretty much a no win situation taking arrows for Getz and JR.  Plus he doesn't need the money.

He saw what happened to Ventura and surely has talked it over with Konerko Thomas maybe even Ozzie.

Jim Thome is anything but useless.  That's an incredibly dumb and uniformed thing say.

Nerds say the darndests things.

I saw the writing on the wall years ago with the nerds. They’re destroying sports. They aren’t content destroying the world.

I'm not thinking changing livelihood, how about changing teams? I believe many of us here have switched companies while staying in the same industry.

It could be that baseball is harder to do that in. You get on with one team and are stuck there until they fire you.

What value does he bring? He works with the players, like Andrew Vaughn, they’re reported to have worked together a lot. And Andrew Vaughn is ass. What does he do?
