He’s a young star in the most dysfunctional organization in professional sports. It’s a minor miracle that his agent hasn’t demanded he’s been shut down for the season like 8 weeks ago. If they were mildly competent they would’ve absolutely demanded a deadline trade. It’s borderline malfeasance for an agent to even allow for a young player to continue employment with this dumpster fire organization.

caulfield12
Half of baseball will be open to an extension if he can stay healthy before a possible trade. And it would increase franchise value to have a young star pitcher with Schultz and Smith right behind. Unfortunately Jerry is so risk adverse he will only see possibilities for injury, instead of a Cy Young in the prime of his young career.

Still not even certain they were going to get any team's top prospect packages as desired from LAD Baltimore...Philly ATL StL, at least two other teams. Bob Sacamano
They desperately need hitting but I’m not sure he’ll bring back multiple top prospect bats.
TheFutureIsNear
I could maybe see a 3 year deal happening. Crochet wanting to cash in now to guarantee his long term future incase of injury makes sense. He would still hit free agency before 30 with a 3 year deal. Who knows if the 2 sides could agree to a # that works for both tho. Most likely not given that Jerry won’t want to spend more than ever after a year of down attendance.

You mean a 3 year deal starting now, or a 5 year deal that buys out 3 years of free agency?

joejoesox
I wouldn't extend him, as much as it pains me to say it. if Jerry is looking to sell, which I think is a real possibility, he's not adding any long term contracts
