There's plenty of "competitive" teams but after the trade deadline they disappear. There does seem to be teams very cautious of trading their prospects especially fielders. Offense was down this year.

You’ve got guys like Bryce, Mauer, Adley, Cole, but you’ve also got Bryan Billington, Tim Beckham, Mark Appel and Luke Hochevar. I just would say that while yes there is still risk picking number one overall based on the last 20 seasons, putting yourself at the top of the draft is the only real benefit of losing a season like this one. Picking 10th is such a slap in the face after a season of slaps in the face lol

But…in his defense, with all of these media hit pieces coming out on the state of the team, could they have possibly chosen a worse personality fit to manage this team? Nearly every description has Pedro as a hardcore MLB lifer that doesn’t care to deal with clubhouse politics and media drama. Meanwhile this team is wracked by exactly that. They legit chose one of the worst possible persons. I almost legit feel bad for the guy. It’s like hiring a divorce lawyer and on day 1 of the trial, they show up and realize it’s a murder 1 case. Doesn't care or doesn't put up with it? If they hired him to put an end to it, bravo for realizing the problem. It was just bigger issue than one coaching staff could contain. Because I found that 81 loss season far less “enjoyable” than this season even. I wonder if Twins and Mariners fans enjoyed this season? Yes I did. If you only get enjoyment when they win and they’ve won once since 1918 might I suggest a new hobby. You must be a miserable old sack with your current hobby.
