They should have hired him when he was available when they hired Ventura. They never go after the guy they should.

They should have promoted him instead of hiring Bevington

Ungrateful jerk....weren't we the 1st franchise to give him the opportunity to manage in the minors? He should've come here at a discount.

Who was the White Sox manager from 1995-1997 when Francona was in the system?

Terry Bevington of course

Francona actually started in 1991. He won MoY in the Southern League in '93. Managed Jordan and the media circus.

He left in 1996 to be the Tigers 3rd base coach.

But that means the Sox passed on him when they fired Lamont. Like how Dombrowski should have been GM instead of Hawk.

"After retiring as a player, Francona began coaching, spending several years in the Chicago White Sox organization. In 1991, he managed the rookie league Sarasota White Sox of the Gulf Coast League. In 1992, he managed the South Bend White Sox of the mid-level Class A Midwest League. As manager of the AA franchise Birmingham Barons in 1993–95, he posted a 223–203 record and won two distinctions: Southern League Manager of the Year in 1993, Baseball America's Minor League Manager of the Year in 1993, and top managerial candidate by Baseball America in 1994, the same year Michael Jordan played for Birmingham. Birmingham won the Southern League championship in 1993. Francona managed in the Dominican Winter League with the Águilas Cibaeñas, and he also won the championship and the Serie del Caribe in 1995–96."

He goes from the White Sox organization to getting hired by good friend Buddy Bell to be the third base coach with the Tigers in 1996.

So.. there were two spots. This leaves one- so Schumaker would be Chicago or sit out a year basically? Who else could get fired? Oli Marmol has new paper rn

I assume he ends up on Angels. He lives in Orange County.

The Reds' fans were not convinced of that 2-3 seasons ago...he was almost as loathed as JR.

Funny how both Central divisions the owners that are like that. The sad thing the worst cheapass is in the large market.

The Reds and Pirates always look competitive until..............the trade deadline.
