Orioles might need an ace

After this debacle, O's might finally be willing to trade for Crochet. It's nice to keep your best prospects, but

missing your window of opportunity could get a GM fired.

That would be about the dumbest thing the new ownership group could possibly do.

They aren't going to change managers, they are certainly not going to move on from a heretofore successful GM at this point.

They could try the "spend money" thing.

Getz continues to prove he can be easily duped in trades and get more Vargas caliber players.

Trade is a bad word for Sox fans unless you like a decade or two of bad baseball.

They’re gonna be in a tough spot losing a few key dudes and will have to spend or trade or have another first round exit if they’re lucky…

We will suck again though so who’s counting.

Looks like Burnes Snell Fried and Flaherty are the O's options.

Flaherty you can automatically cross off the list.

Snell is so damned erratic and doesn't go deep enough in games.

Max Fried seems to be the likeliest target.  Proven playoff winner this week's loss to SD notwithstanding.

Are you trying to get that line sponsored or something?

The Orioles have 3 in the Top 30 prospects and some surveys have them in Top10. I would prefer resigning Crochet but if he Sox prefer trading him the Oriols and also Red Sox need a number 1 and have a bunch of Top 50 prospects. Like the Orioles, the Red Sox keep their top prospect this year but now maybe they will trade via some of their prospects.

I think more teams hold on to their real prospects.  With an injury prone league when a major player is out you need someone to fill the spot that gets a short audition at the big leagues.   It's a good way to evaluate their younger players.

I just don't trust the Sox with a good organization's prospects.  The coaching isn't there and never was. Interesting to hear AJ talking about the Sox organization when it comes to other prospects thinking if they were in the Sox organization they could make it quicker to the big leagues.  The downside is losing service time and could be closer to a DFA than the big leagues unless you find another easily duped GM.

I’m not sure Crochet is an upgrade.  Maybe??

Depends if you believe in fWAR for pitchers...Crochet wins that in a runaway, and Eflin is at an unaffordable $18 million for essentially a 2/3 starter most seasons.

Getz is a dope. No doubt. But if you quit trading, you'll lose Crochet for a draft pick in 2 years anyway. When you have something

great like GC, the competition will be stiff. Almost anyone can play a royal flush.

Exactly.  The best thing that could have happened was the Orioles getting embarrassed right out of the postseason.  It ensured that those Orioles fans wouldn’t come back to this board, because they know we would lick their tears.  But now we have another Orioles trade thread that will open the door for their return.  🤣

Crochet would not have been a #1 on Baltimore or Boston and I doubt he would have pitched in the series for Baltimore.  Maybe if they forced a game 3.

They won’t have to worry about that next season if they don’t make a number of good moves this offseason because they won’t even make the playoffs
