Isn’t the lesson here that yes they could use Crochet but in the playoffs today no single starting pitcher is a true difference maker any more? And that instead, it’s more useful to have a deep bench of guys who can give two innings in a bullpen game or after a starter gets pulled in the 4th inning?

No because the Yankees have the only complete starting rotation of teams in the playoffs and they’ve been the most dominant pitching staff in the postseason thus far.

Eh the Orioles had an ERA of 1.50. The Yankees have an ERA of 2.4, the Royals 2.55.

Orioles was 2 games and they had two good SPs but very incomplete thereafter. Would have been exposed if they went deeper.

It’s amazing to me how most of these teams have worse starting rotations in October than the 2024 White Sox. You’re telling me these teams couldn’t use Crochet right now?? The Yankees are the only team with an actual 1-4 rotation full of starting pitchers and certainly seem to be the most complete team. The rest are cobbling together guys like Cobb, Brasier, etc. What is this???

No they couldn't.  He's never pitched a full season and we come up with all of these theories how to make it possible for Oct.  No one was going to give up alot for a 2024 ?  I think there was more hype than reality at the trade deadline.

This is why Elias believes you need hitting more than pitching...but you definitely need enough quality depth in the rotation to get your team to the post season in the first place.

Ofc he would have looked a lot smarter had Flaherty pitcher to his potential.

And even then you could turn out like the Mariners...or Padres last season.

I guess the modern day closer throws only hard.  Imagine one with a great change up or curve.

BTW most bullpens suck in baseball

The whole Cleveland bullpen was more or less unhittable in the regular season. Regression to the mean sucks.

Clase especially. He had a 0.6 ERA in the regular season, but has blown 2 games in the playoffs.

Cleveland crashing down to earth in a ball of flames would be my favorite thing ever.

I just don’t feel the “division rival” hate anymore. Divisions are stupid with 6 playoff teams. If you would have told me before the playoffs started that the World Series was going to be Padres/Guardians, I would have been happy. Why? Because a fan base would be seeing their team win a championship for the first time. (Yes, some 90 year olds may have remembered the 48 Indians)

I will always hate Cleveland with a passion. You could do away with divisions and I’d still hate them. The rest of the ALC I’ve grown more ambivalent towards, but not Cleveland. Never Cleveland.

I also hate them for blowing a 3-1 lead to the Cubs.
