For one thing, they're clearly lacking a real ace.  Nola is more like an ace-adjunct.

Well, they're going to have to get more production up the middle of the field, at SS/2B/CF.

As far as Painter goes, their top pitching prospect, find it doubtful that Getz would take a pitcher so soon after TJS as the centerpiece of a deal, but that's probably the best time to strike with (relatively) depressed value.  Same way the Sox were able to get Giolito, Lopez and Dunning in one strike, because of the fall in Lucas' standing after early big league struggles and concerns over mechanical adjustments after high school.

 

If the White Sox were really creative, they'd sign Bieber but undoubtedly he'll get more guaranteed money elsewhere.  It also seems like the kind of bet AJ Preller's going to make before he guts his farm system to acquire another front line starter.

The Flying Serpent played his part tonight.

On one hand, let's fucking go Mets.

On the other hand, the series is just a reminder of regrets: Manaea and Quintana could have been added for dirt cheap the past few years. They had Iglesias and traded him for Avi Garcia. Schwarber was right there for the taking and then, obviously, Harper.

It feels like the Sox were connected to — or fans/this board beat the drum for — all of those guys.

The Phillies remind me of the White Sox teams of 83, 21 (and 93 to a lesser extent);  something was missing and you could feel it all season.  In the Sox case, not the most athletic teams and the bullpens weren't always first rate.

Really thought Manaea was done after watching his stuff erode with SD but he has really bounced back this year.

Kershaw is the same way.  Still you need those horses to get you there.

It might have premature to take him out so early. Some guys get better as the game goes on.

KC didn't finish that much ahead of the White Sox in attendance after all.  It's really a Chiefs town now if it wasn't already.

1/4 or 1/3 of fans will cheer for NY.

When you are better at sustaining shitty baseball fans don't show up since it is rarely long term.  Plenty of owners don't believe in building a fan base.  We have one who is very good at destroying them.

This goes all the way back to the decision not to start him in 2020.
