I'll give Getz one thing: He's good at slashing the budget.

He's a better a McKinsey man than Hahn or Haber.

The guy blew $4.5 million on a completely washed up Martin Maldonado, took on Lopez and Soroka even though the Braves GM tried to help by saying they were going to be non tendered, picked up Stassi who never played, signed guys like Flexen and Brebbia, and the true crescendo was giving Clevinger a contract worth more than the league minimum when no one else on baseball would sign him. Thats some serious wasted money.

The big money managers aren't coming into this train wreck so financial limitation  isn't  nearly as limiting than the crap players and a meddling owner and his "special friends".

Really pick almost anyone and hope you get lucky.

The crazy thing is there really aren’t any big name high $ managers available other than maybe Skip. Is Jerry really going to make this decision based on like $500k savings?

And as soon as I typed that I realized it was a dumb rhetorical question. Of course he will.

Some people actually expected the Sox to spend some money this offseason considering they would be dumping Eloy and Moncada and their payroll will be so low.  I can’t wait to see the damage Getz does in the dumpsters this offseason.  Should be exciting!

Seems like a good hire but the fact that we're going through new names on what should be very late in the process is concerning in itself.

Maybe it's just a negotiating tactic. "Oh, you want that much? Look!! This exciting, new candidate just became available!!

Eh, they're not "LEAKING EVERYTHING ON PURPOSE TO PROVE THEY'RE GETTING GREAT OFFERS" like they did in a previous trade discussion, so no worries if we haven't heard every name yet.

I’m sure there are fantastic candidates who are cheap but the chances of this organization finding that person are incredibly slim. Another reason why Jerry Reinsdorf should be out of professional sports he just chooses not to accept the fact that in order to make money you gotta spend money.

Heyman is a known tool used by the agents. Have to look at these tweets of his in that lens

Albernaz could be close to finalizing with the Marlins and Heyman is putting it out there that the Sox are interested so as to bring up his contract number with Miami

He's done it before for far less money. Remember Lucas Giolito and $50,000 (fifty thousand) dollars?

To me, this is the most exciting hire out there.  If Chris can bring him on then would be reason for a little optimism.

All of this is as exciting as a root canal.  You know you won’t be any better but you just hope you won’t be worse off than before but you can’t be sure until the Novocain wears off.

This is sadly pathetic. When I got like this about the bears, I stopped following them.

Hopefully we're all beyond arguing about Covid-19 vaccinations at this point...he had to stay in Canada for 14 days because of Canadian policies, fwiw.

Plus the 2-5 career MLB managerial record fits right in, lol.

.286 X 162=41-121

On September 6, 2017, Venable was named a special assistant to Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein.[97] Venable served as the first base coach of the Cubs in 2018 and 2019.[98] For the 2020 season, he was shifted to third base coach.[99]

On November 20, 2020, Venable was announced as the bench coach of the Boston Red Sox.[100] On May 29, 2021, Venable managed his first MLB game, filling in for Alex Cora in a game against the Miami Marlins, as Cora was in Puerto Rico to attend the high school graduation of one of his children; the Red Sox won, 3–1.[101] On August 7, 2021, during a series in Canada against the Toronto Blue Jays, Venable tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in Venable and first-base coach Tom Goodwin (deemed a close contact) quarantining away from the rest of Red Sox personnel.[102]

During the 2022 season, Venable led the Red Sox for six games in the latter half of April after manager Cora tested positive for COVID-19; the team went 1–5 in those games.[103]

On November 16, 2022, Venable was hired by the Texas Rangers to be an associate manager alongside Bruce Bochy.[104]

What is the opinion of Phil Nevin getting the job?  I remember him as a ballplayer, he had a decent career.

Is Getz regulated to the Dollar Store for his hire?
