Yeah, the issue is location.  LMAO.

he's doing reinsdorf's bidding. location was just fine when they sold almost 3 million tickets without the dan ryan operating AT ALL for two full seasons. yes, there was a world series halo, but that team also won 90 games. and the 90 loss team in 2007? 2.67 million fans with the same lack of superhighway access.

And don't really generate jobs (and almost all the jobs they do generate are low wage and seasonal)?

these projects where private business gets public money always tout the jobs. the short term construction jobs plus the "permanent" jobs after the fact.
yes, sox park has more seasonal day of game staff than full time posts, but 1000 or more people working is still better than none. in the case of the 78 proposal, we're also looking at the halo effect of related business on the site providing jobs as well.

What about the jobs lost in Bridgeport. The jobs thing has always been a farce. They are creating very few new jobs. Just transferring from one location to another. There are literally over 100 companies in Chicago alone that employ more people and create more revenue than the White Sox. Shouldn’t they be entitled to new rent free offices built by the state?  Enough with JR. There was a question on the ballots in one of the wards this past election  asking about using public funds for a Bears stadium. The voters gave it an overwhelming no. And that’s the Bears, far more popular than the White Sox, and they would actually contribute $2 billion.  Politicians going against their constituents wishes aren’t politicians much longer. JR and the McCaskeys are going to have to find another way.

What Dick Allen said and then some. Right now, all JR cares about is a new stadium and his new TV network. Building a winning team? Not so much. And all this nonsense about "being open to selling"? That was nothing but crap. When will the team be a contender? No one knows and that includes the White Sox. Fans are being scammed as always. What a joke.

This has never been about drawing fans when winning.  We all know Sox fans are a bandwagon lot who show up for blue skies.  Jerry is looking north at Wrigley for a place whose game day experiences are so powerful that people don't just show up when times are good, but still show up when things are bad.

True...but that could be said about every owner...that is the ideal state for an organization.  White Sox fans aren't built that way or at least we haven't been giving a reason to show up for a bad ball club!

Which is why the ballpark village concept would appeal to Jerry.

Maybe the Sox would have a deeper fan base if the actually tried to build one. And Cub fans? They're idiots.

From Jon Greenberg's story in The Athletic:

"Glencoe businessman Andrew Berlin, who has owned stakes in the Chicago Cubs and White Sox, would be a promising candidate to join Stewart’s group or lead one of his own. So would Winnetka’s Justin Ishbia, who co-owns the Phoenix Suns with his brother, Mat."

"Would Stewart threaten to move the team? It wouldn’t be that easy. Though the A’s are finally gone, it comes after years and years of issues between the team, state and city. And to be clear, the A’s are to blame. MLB doesn’t want another fiasco like that.

I imagine MLB would like to keep Chicago as a two-team town, and Nashville is no sure thing to land a big-league team. But baseball would also love to have Stewart, a great pitcher and member of the vaunted Black Aces, be the face of a franchise."

Sucks. Guess he wasn't willing to wait Jerry out, and I don't blame him.

God I hate Jerry so much.  Can’t wait until we end up with a Stewart led ownership group somehow.

I prefer a zillionaire that doesn't need to organize a group.  Someone who looks at the cap as something to be aware of but isn't paralyzed by it.

If he isn't talking to others about selling, it's because he already has it figured out.

I'm sure he has. My guess again from what I've heard, is his family will sell the club when JR has passed on.

Time will tell what eventually happens.

From what I was told twice Andrew Berlin made offers to buy the club after the 2008 season and supposedly some of the minority owners were urging JR to sell, but he refused.

That would be a refreshing change as the Sox have never had an owner like that in their history.

That's because it's a rarity. The only mega-wealthy owners nowadays that throw money around like it's nothing are ones that are passionate about the sport — Ballmer and Cohen, for example.

Find a baseball crazed billionaire and we'll talk. Otherwise, get an ownership group.

Ishbia spent like crazy with the Suns and they ended up a worse team. same thing with Mikhail Prokhorov, except not only were the Nets bad, it crippled the franchise and handed Boston a title.

Rich idiots may be rich but they're still idiots. I guess they can pay out $700mil contracts and retain $70mil on trades, but that's more so an indictment on the league IMO.

A willingness to spend is a lot more valuable in baseball.

They've also put a ton of their OWN money towards renovating the arena.

I don't trust the renovations, I don't want to pay more for a ticket and a hot dog so that I can enter through a fancy lobby. I wasn't really begging for a "8,500-sq.-ft., interactive LED video wall that can be programmed with dynamic content. This video wall glows like a beacon and is visible from several blocks away." Maybe they should renovate the three point line back a couple feet and then basketball will actually be interesting.

Actually I'm looking through the 'renovations' and I hate all of them. absolutely nothing about upgrading the toilets. I'm seeing these self-cleaning ones now, add some of those.  "Restrooms have been refreshed with new graphics, finishes and fixtures" though. A gorilla in sunglasses can watch you piss.

The point is there won't be a Stewart purchase because the team isn't actually for sale. The earlier rumors of JR being open to selling and then floating Stewart were literally just leverage plays.

And if you still want some hope as a Sox fan, the Ishbias might be using JR's own move on him. It is pretty widely known that potential owners often float their name for other teams as both a signal and a kind of trial run at the process before they actually buy a team.

This could be the Ishbias basically telling JR that they are serious about owning a team soon and if he doesn't decide to make a move, then they will take themselves out of the running, which also gives whoever the next owner is less competition, and thus, JR a likely lower payout.

Uncertainty is one of the worst things that can be visited upon a business of any kind.  The author of that Athletic story knows that all too well but also knows that controversial topics bring readers.   Hanging out a virtual "for sale" sign and promoting that is one sure way to damage the franchise, dishearten and even alienate fans.  And to what end and for what purpose? Stew really wants to move the WSox to Nashville?  OK, if so fuckhim
