I thought they played hard all season. They were just terrible. Robert was the only guy who seemed  like he didn't give a s%*#.

Yeah must of the team just sucked.  They sucked more than they should have, but they mostly tried.  It is easy to look lazy when you have no talent.

He could say something that wasn’t so obviously untrue to any random Sox fan that watched a few games last year.

I know it’s all fluff but a quote like this just remind me of Awful Grifol.  You don’t have to sugarcoat everything, especially not one of the worst teams in major league history.

Expand

Worth noting that media relations is also a skill that a coach will learn if they’re good. Grifol never learned.

You want to meet a fanbase halfway, acknowledge challenges but without being too down, and do it off the cuff. Not easy.

Too negative and your Jim Mora being asked about the playoffs. Too positive and you’re cloying like the Getz fanboys here.

For now feel free to complain, the hope is, unlike Grifol, this is something he gets better at.

Katz had figured out Kopech. All it took was for Kopech to finally listen to him. This has been thoroughly discussed.

Expand

Jeebus Lice man, wow are you a freaking shill!  If Katz was truly confident that he had fixed Kopech, Getz wouldn’t have sold him to the Dodgers for peanuts.

Thoroughly discussed in your own twisted and biased mind maybe…  🤣

And you ripped Kopech because he supposedly had a 7 ERA this postseason.  He actually had a 3 ERA this postseason and was good.  You never acknowledged that you were wrong, so why should we still listen to and value your opinions?

Ok, so it sounds like the new manager is getting good reviews, so can someone explain why we are cutting payroll again next year?   Is it not possible to still rebuild the entire organization and still go out and sign some quality free agents?

Expand

Good question. We got a stellar manager so why not pull a Royals and acquire 2 GOOD starters, one good reliever (we have a lot of other guys to try around a good reliever), and also a power hitting outfielder and a GOOD hitting second baseman for starters? It might cost Jerry a little money but for gosh sakes spend enough to finish 20 under .500 not 40 under!! Or else get out of the business and sell the club please. So my plan would be 30 mill a year combined for the two starters, 15 mill for the good reliever and 10 mill for the good second baseman. Try to bring up Monte in May to play SS. And bring up Elko for some pop when he's ready. THank u. the new manager and his pitching coach can work with the plethora of young pitching talent to go with the two new veteran starters!

I didn’t see much energy 😆 Perhaps they did show some and I just did not watch said game… that’s one thing I’m forgetting here… I didn’t watch games last year with nearly as much frequency.

ALL of the games I did watch however, they looked dead.

Expand

When you’re watching on TV and the team can’t score runs, they will always look dead. I actually did think the energy picked up a little bit when Grady arrived. But then it looked like it faded again because they were terrible.

He's putting that out there as something that isn't a direct lie. WS2023 doesn't believe a word of what he wrote.

Yes, I do.  Do you mind if I speak for myself?

There is promising pitching in this org.  There are ZERO promising position players in this org.   Not one guy you can bank on being an above average player or star.

I misread his stats and was very, very wrong. The shame, the horror.

Because the owner hasn't made enough profit to satisfy him so there you go.

You'll get nothing and like it.

That’s an accurate description of what I recall… they had more life when Grady took over than I remember seeing in them for years. It was refreshing…

For a couple of games. 😆

You're quickly going to run out of starting pitchers after Burnes, Fried, Snell (most wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole, look at his average IP/start, Greg) and Flaherty...

Manaea 3/$66 million

Buehler 2/$50 million

Eovaldi 2/$50 million

Wacha (will leave Royals) 2/$44 million

Severino 2/$40 million

Kikuchi 2/$40 million

Scherzer 1/$25 million (only a contender, in all likelihood)

Sugano (JAPAN) 2/$36 million

Pivetta 2/$36 million

Nick Martinez 2/$32 million

Verlander 1/$20 (only a contender, in all likelihood)

Bieber 1/$15 (coming off a major injury)

Good luck with that Greg...you have to pick two guys who are costing twice as much as Eric Fedde, and hit on both of them.

Japanese pitchers are notoriously volatile (we don't even scout the Pacific Rim), Martinez was mostly a reliever and spot starter for Cincy, Bieber's coming off almost an entire year off...but that's where you are shopping, and we all know JR won't approve even ONE "semi-expensive" legit veteran starting pitcher, let alone two.

And don't forget even if JR approved spending big money who in their right mind would want to come to this incompetent, dysfunctional and inept organization unless the Sox way overpaid them.

I love all the discussions about stuff that can't be measured. Y'all relive the good old days.

If you can't measure it then it's all eyeball, stuff you see, old school crap. I didn't care if they look to fans (or people on the field for decades)  like they have "energy" or "want to win". It's about as important of information as the number of wins for a pitcher. And at least that you can have some data to work with.

What it shows me is we hired a guy with a 1970s mentality and apparently he's got a few people here thinking that is somehow important.

You have been saying that Kopech is still the same pitcher that he was with the Sox in several of your posts.  Meanwhile, he put up a 1.13 ERA in 24 regular season innings and a 3 ERA in 9 postseason innings with the Dodgers.  So is Kopech still the same pitcher or is it just because you misread his stats?
