Dick Allen
Penn Murfee is a new piece of the White Sox bullpen. Jimmy Lambert and Matt Foster are now free agents. At the very least, it's a good name for a reliever. Edited November 4 by Dick Allen

T R U
Man are there no young guys with promising arms to take chances on? We don't need to be recycling 30 somethings on the waiver wire. This guy didn't even pitch last season outside of one horrible A ball outing.

TaylorStSox
You gotta be seriously invested in the role to complain about waiver claims. 4

Also he was okay in 16 outings with the Mariners in 2023 before he had surgery last year.

I get that he’s just a body most likely but man there’s no way there isn’t someone more interesting or talented on the waiver wire that might be worth something one day, even if that chance is remote. WestEddy
His 2022 stats look solid. Every player on the field doesn't have to be 21. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/murfepe01.shtml

They have 2 slots open on the 40-man after picking up Murfee. They're still good to grab that slightly better 23-year-old if he becomes available. Yup, missed 2024 for UCL Reconstruction. That makes this a little weird.

And after maybe cutting Sheets/Lopez/Anderson/Scholtens/Shewmake and maybe a Crochet trade, they have ample slots on the 40-man to mess around with waiver pick-ups and Rule 5 dudes. If there is, you just DFA this guy. There is literally no harm in cycling through guys at the back of the 40 man. It’s something the previous regime was terrible at.

They never churned over the bottom of the 40-man while you see teams like Tampa and Dodgers constantly churning and burning.

It's a little weird to grab this guy aggressively with a roster spot now when he's coming off TJS, so basically you won't actually get to see him do anything before you decide whether you need the roster spot. In terms of churning, this is a little off - unless they just really like the guy.
