Snopek
Similar to the Venable hire, on paper this seems like a step in the right direction. Now keep doing more things.
southsider2k5
I would like to read more on what "director of hitting" will actually do for this organization.
Harry Chappas
Why at 34 was he available?

Getz at least seems to make good hires and want to move the organization in the right direction. I just hope he knows how to acquire players and develop a front office structure / coaching structure that can develop players in a cohesive manner.

He was recently fired as the co-hitting coach of the Baltimore Orioles. 1 hour ago, southsider2k5 said: I would like to read more on what "director of hitting" will actually do for this organization. My guess is that he's essentially "in charge" of hitting. He'll be the offensive equivalent to Brian Bannister.
SoxAce
Jury is still very much out on Getz as a trade and FA evaluator but I'm liking his FO hires in the organization.

Y2Jimmy0
6 minutes ago, almagest said: I assume not, but any idea why he was fired? Yes, actually. He really preaches hitting the ball in the air and swing decisions, etc. The Orioles "struggled" in the second half offensively and went out early in the playoffs and both hitting coaches took the fall. To me though, this type of role fits this guy much better than big league hitting coach.

Sounds like hitting coaches taking the fall for the Orioles heavily relying on young players, who can be streaky and struggle to adapt to pitchers changing approaches to them. Hopefully this works out well for us - would really like to hear what this role entails and what kinds of changes he makes.
Timmy U
I will be interested to see how this hire affects MiLB hitters. Baltimore has had some ultra good prospects, but even their org guys usually have a patient approach. Future of the org is tied to developing Bonemer and Wolkow and maybe Zavala. Hope this guy helps. He's in charge of hitting for the entire organization. It's basically the same thing that Brian Bannister has been doing but for hitting. 3 minutes ago, Timmy U said: I will be interested to see how this hire affects MiLB hitters. Fuller was their minor league hitting coordinator for years and coached many of their prospects as a hitting coaching in Bowie I believe.

GreenSox
Getz has done more for the infrastructure of this organization in a year than his predecessor did in a decade +. Admittedly, the comparison is a ridiculously low bar, but I think the Sox will make the playoffs prior to Getz' year 8.
