Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread

What concerns me about trading Crochet, is that Getz will not get a fair amount of talent back.   The Vargas trade was a Complete Disaster, Getz is just over his head.   Keep Crochet!

Then it’s a good thing he fired their pro scouts

I get he’s of limited value to the Sox, but I like watching Crochet pitch. If they can get a top guy (Zyhir Hope?), absolutely, do the deal. Miguel Vargas-type? I would keep him.

Crochet and Fedde aren’t in the same stratosphere of value.

Philly would be intriguing to me because they definitely have the resources to make a deal done, they would be highly motivated given that they've been in the playoffs but haven't finished the job, and they have a pretty substantial payroll and are likely already in multi-year taxpayer territory so a cheap guy could be extra useful to them as they could use money elsewhere.

That said, Philly seems to have a habit of making decisions and getting things done, particularly with their rotation. They might have overspent on Nola last year but got him done. They didn't let Wheeler get to FA, and when they originally signed him it was early in the offseason. Trea Turner signed at the winter meetings. Trying to wait and hoping to negotiate through leaks to make a better offer appear probably won't work with them, if Dombrowski gets told no at an offer he is willing to make, he probably moves on.

You are spot on everywhere in this thread and a strong Philly offer is one I could be very excited about.

I think he is traded by the winter meetings.

I do think Sox will benefit from making clear he’s available, and not letting teams like brewers/guardians etc dangle players when we try to play hardball. Let it be clear he’s gonna move and let teams auction. Our leverage to keep him isn’t convincing.

I want the Sox to keep him and consider extending him at the end of the season. Also get involved in the FA market, what does JR care about the cost ?,  just sell the team in the next 2 -3 years.

I think Crochet has more trade value than Cease had last winter. I guess we’re all about to find out.

I agree with this. Cease was coming off a pretty lackluster year and overall doesn't have as much of a "wow" factor as Crochet.

As opposed to retaining Crochet in 2025 just to lose 100+ games again WITH him, while retaining significant injury risk and watching his value deplete regardless of how he pitches?

Trading Crochet - assuming you can get a very good return - is an absolute no brainer.

I said Crochet is a Number 1 or 2 starter.  Are we sure Getz is a "no brainer" to get  "a very good return "for Crochet.  Also , if the intention is to keep Crochet and still lose 100 games then you absolutely should trade him. If the Sox keep Crochet and add significant players from free agency then that is a different conversation.

This is going to be ugly when it happens if he signs an extension early on.

Why?  I see Crochet as an incredibly risky extension.  I don't see him holding up long term as a SP.  The Sox extending him (as an example - they wont), with two seasons of cheap control would be a crazy decision IMO.

The crowd that thinks we can build around Crochet will lose their minds.

Trading Crochet is a no brainer.  The risk of holding him is insanely high, and his value isn't going to get higher than it is right now.  Whether or not Getz can get a very good return remains to be seen, but I am fairly confident most every club will be interested so he should be able to get a good return.  I certainly have my concerns as outlined previously in this very thread, but they're not significant enough to say "hey, lets keep him and watch his value decrease on a 100+ loss club even if he's really good".

The Sox are going to lose 100+ games.  62-100 would be a 21 game improvement, and this roster is very likely to be less talented than last years.  Dumb luck may get them a 5-10 game improvement with a worse roster, but there are no FA adds that suddenly take this team remotely close to .500.

Boston’s system is loaded. Getting any of their top 3 guys would be a great start to an enticing package.

Uh oh, trading our star lefty for a top Boston prospect? Getting bad dejavu and Yoan Moncada vibes.

teams didnt value Fedde's results more than Kikuchi's pitch data (w/ bad results)

then Kikuchi proceeded to be awesome and Fedde proceeded to suck

the days are over where a team trading for a guy is only going to care about what they did recently results-wise
