I imagine the Riki Sasaki news eliminates the Dodgers from the Crochet derby. Too bad. I like their trio of hitters best of any of the teams involved.

Well because of his age, he will be a bargain. Why doesn’t Getz just sign him? I’m sure he will be impressed with Chris’ vision of the future.

Of course he was full of it. He said the Sox offer was for more money, but for some reason the team couldn’t afford to match the Padres offer of less money.

I've got one source that believes Sasaki will specifically avoid the Dodgers specifically because Ohtani is already there. I don't know if he's right, but the source is someone who would know stuff.

What if Venable sells Jerry on how the Rangers went out and spent about a billion dollars on FAs and it led to a title in like 2-3 years?  They sign Soto and Burnes and a closer.   They keep Crochet and Robert. (Lol to all!)

But they could end up with a rotation of:

Crochet

Burnes

Thorpe

N. Shultz

H. Smith

And a team of:

1B Vaughn

2B Some FA

SS Montgomery

3B Ramos

OF Soto

OF Robert

OF Benintendi

C Lee/Quero

They have some decent bullpen pieces and if they add a closer—that is starting to look like a team that could win at LEAST 50 games, no?!?!

If we were looking at an honest sport, a team coming off literally the worst season any of us have ever seen would feel compelled to make these kinds of moves, and although it might not be a playoff team next year, you have to admit it looks a lot better yes. You put a 41 win team on the field in the 3rd biggest city in the country? Yeah, your penance should be signing a $600 million outfielder and a $200 million pitcher to bring yourself back to respectability.

And for reference, you said a half billion - you have underpriced just your OF addition with that amount. Talk about a billion for this roster.

Totally!  I did say “about a billion.”  I know the Rangers were at a half billion…but they were closer than we are with the rest of their roster.  We are a billion away at least.  And that counts calling up minor league talent before it’s ready.

Certain clubs like the Phillies, Red Sox, and Orioles seem to have the position player prospects the Sox would covet in a trade 

I do not love the Mets as a fit

Dodgers always could get involved?

I doubt the Padres would be destination for Crochet, although of course I could be wrong

Salas and de Vries would be of obvious interest, along with Mayfield, Bateman and Tears. I am not sure they would be willing to part with either of those top guys and they are both also quite a way from the majors. 

I would guess Sox are looking for position player(s) they are only 1-2 seasons away from a callup, otherwise this rebuild will take forever
