Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread

I'm 61, how old are you?

Sure. I don't think 81-85 wins is out of the question by 2026. I meant making the playoffs, and looking like they could be a factor. Having 7+ starting offensive pieces. Full rotation with no question marks.

The richest person on Earth could buy the White Sox, and they're not signing the top 3 agents for the next 3 years. This is year zero. They have 3 stud pitchers in the minors. They have 4 nice rotation pieces on the ML team. Maybe they have 3 positional starters in the organization right now.

Zuckerberg Bezos Musk LV guy and Buffett are not patient enough to run 100 loss teams out there into perpetuity.

You'd have your new stadium and maybe not Soto but at least a fighting chance to compete...just like the Mets now under Cohen, granted 2023 was a major disappointment, but they followed with a magical season and Stearns is another Andrew Friedman in waiting.

While I wouldn't trade for a pitcher headliner in a Crochet deal, I'll play along.  If Crochet's arm explodes next season, he very well may never pitch another inning for the White Sox, and if he does, we're talking 2nd half of 2026, and he'd have next to zero trade value, if any.

If the Sox were to acquire Andrew Painter, he has 6-7 years of control.  If he goes down with another TJS, he either has 6-7 years of control still, or worst case, you lose a season and a half of control if he happens to be on the active roster when the injury happens.

This is pretty meaningful difference when the Sox might lose more than 121 games in 2025 (even with Crochet!), and would require a miraculous turn around to be remotely competitive in 2026 (even with Crochet!).  But we can continue to ignore those extremely relevant details if you so wish.

I will be fully honest here.  I don't want a pitcher as a centerpiece of this deal.  But I also don't want the Getz group to take a massive discount on a hitter just to get a hitter into the deal.  At the end of the deal the best deal is the best deal.

We've heard no one is trading top end offensive prospects so I'm guessing it'll be a higher end pitching prospect and some lower level hitting prospects. If that's the best they can do, then fine I guess, but they absolutely need to develop those hitters and there's no acceptable excuses if they can't.

No one may want to trade those type of players, but sometimes getting a deal done requires hard decisions. It's on Getz to find a way to make that happen.

That should potentially include...frankly, waiting until next season if required.

I'd be fine with that, if they think his value at the deadline or next season will be higher than it is now. I'd say at the deadline it could be, assuming he stays healthy and continues his dominance. I doubt it would be with a year left.

I also think there's a difference between "they don't want to trade those players" and "they will not trade those players for a player like Crochet". I think it's more of the latter.

I doubt that from the White Sox perspective^

Makes sense to me, as Boston isn’t trade Anthony or Teel.  Don’t forget that they asked Boston to take Benintendi as well.

Red Sox have supposedly joined Soto Sweepstakes.

Need Crochet to go along with that...also, to bring along Benintendi Yoshida would have to go.

Not necessarily. Rafaela could move from the outfield back to the infield with Duran moving to CF.

Or Abreu is part of a White Sox deal.

I love Teel but I don't want another catcher anyways. Didn't you allude to Campbell would be included?  I could do a Campbell, Abreu + type package. I thought I remember you mentioning (or someone) Campbell and Montgomery

This would be my target from Boston, or De Paula and Hope from LA.

i have an inkling they’d like to get a deal done before the December Winter Meetings.

Ah yes a 25 (turning 26 in June) year old, 5'9-5'10 player who doesn't have huge power, not much of a base stealer, elite defensively... I almost squinted and saw Dom Fletcher with a bit more power.

You think they'd go for Raffaela if elite defense was the main point.

Ofc...that would mean the least amount of homers for the offense but it's a vision of sorts that certainly got distorted last season.

And someone that will instantly lose all defensive value once he comes here.  I agree, he’d be a disappointing headliner.

I don't either.  It would be terrible.  Sox are in relatively solid shape as far as SP goes.  Position players? Yuck.  Was just playing along with the game though, because the logic just isn't there.

Its also worth recognizing that elite offensive talents rarely get traded now a days.  Look no further than the Cease deal.  Still can't believe that is the best we could get.
