Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread

Often times, those you are referring to as 2nd or 3rd tier players turn into dependable everyday players. Something quite frankly we haven't had in right field in over a decade. And as stated often times high ceiling players don't reach that ceiling. It may be coaching, circumstances, injuries, lack of development or any number of reasons.

I'm not suggesting they don't aspire to acquire those high ceiling guys. However someone like Abreu who has shown mlb success, built a nice reputation amongst Boston fans, wouldn't be someone to be disappointed about in my opinion. Again, so long as he's not the centerpiece....I don't think he will be.

Basabe and Zavala come to mind...high ceiling/low floor/high bust rate types.

W.Abreu has at least had one solid all-around big league season...only Eaton and Avi Garcia have had better single years since Jermaine Dye patrolled RF.

Are the Sox really going to trade Crochet? I assume whoever they get won't be ready for 2-3 years? I'm just wondering if we're only gonna win between 40 and 50 games again in 2025. I won't make any predictions until late January when it's obvious the roster is complete. Say what you want but taking Crochet out of the mix isn't exactly going to help the team in its pursuit of 50 wins. ... If the Sox are continuing the tank, I'd think they'd just want to have all openers who go two innings max followed by a parade of one-inning guys. If the goal is not to win why would they risk injury to any pitcher? Just have 'em all go 2 innings max and showcase their repertoire all season. Our staff isn't exactly going to be made up of proven guys. p.s. If they do want to trade Robert I would think they'd wait til the trade deadline to see if he gets good again. His value can't be too high after that mediocre season he had. 35 RBI and a .224 BA in the old days was Ken Berry-like (good field no hit) not Willie Mays-like.

I was just thinking if we're not going to compete, just pitch all our prospects one or two innings at a time. We'll still win 40 games. We proved last year you can win 40 and change just by showing up every day.

Another that he was overly concerned with velocity since his legendary Texas HS baseball days (set some crazy mark like 103-105 MPH) and was known to be trying to throw a ball through a wall (wanted even MORE velo back then) rather than being a pitcher (simply a raw thrower who relied on stuff mostly and wasn't refined or mature).

Yeah, a live arm with ace stuff. Nothing like chopped liver.

Agree as long as Abreu is the #2 piece in a trade. He is pretty much only reliable hitting against RH pitching. But he is young and going against lefties should be the next step in his offense. Boston has a need to find a hole for one of their young OF prospects so Abreu should be a nice 2nd piece

I would prefer the Sox target prospects that have more ceiling and that could be stashed for at least a season in the minors while the MLB club is terrible.

Abreu a fine player, but is he a guy that moves the needle much? He is way better against RHP (.825 OPS vs .532 OPS vs lefties in 2024) which brings platoon bat concerns.

Doesn’t Slater hit well against LHP over his career? I think it’s generally much easier to find guys that can hit LHP versus the other way around.

Why is it hard to believe teams are very inter in Crochet?

I'm happy to believe they are.

I do not believe that if they're serious about it, they're all regularly calling up Heyman for updates.

I do not believe that, if Getz was deep in getting strong offers, he would be leaking a general list of teams like that to Heyman.

We are hearing about teams interested in Juan Soto. What's the difference? Is Juan Soto thinking he isn't good enough offers that he hasn't even gotten yet?

If I hear someone is interested in Juan Soto, who do you think I believe leaked the information about the interest in this free agent? Take one moment on this. What person, good honest chap, involved in the Juan Soto negotiations might feel there's some benefit to him in leaking that teams are interested in Juan Soto?

I’m confused why it matters? First off, we have no idea if Chris Getz is leaking this information. And if he is then he is doing…what every other team/player does for their own personal gain.
