Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread

The adjustment going from AAA to the majors is massive.  I don’t think he has anything left to learn in the minors from a hitting perspective, but it’s clear he will need to continue to develop in the majors.  How long that takes remains to be seen.  But zero reason not to pick up O’hearn’s option given he’s worth more that and can be traded if needed.

O’Hearn has a career 1.8 fWAR across 7 seasons. To say he’s definitively worth more than $8M in 2025 is debatable. But, yes, he has been better with the Orioles. It won’t take much of a slip in his hitting production to result in an overall negative player again. For a team as cheap as the Orioles seem to be (even with the new owner), it sure seems that $8M could be better utilized on pitching upgrades if Mayo is a 3+ WAR player year in year out.

Him becoming a 3 win player doesn’t mean he will be one as rookie.

But he won’t be a 1+ win player as a rookie? That should be adequate to replace O’Hearn at a fraction of the cost.

Steamer 600 projects Mayo at 1.7 fWAR vs. 1.9 for O’Hearn, so theoretically it’s all very close.  That being said, the Orioles love having too much depth so it’s not completely out of the world they would keep both.  And it’s still very early and it’s possible they move one of this off-season.  If fact, I wouldn’t be that surprised if they are trying to use Mayo in a package to acquire a TOR starter.

They’d be smart to package him for a starting pitcher

Reds are certainly intriguing and not a team I would have considered interested in this trade. But a package built around Arroyo and Collier would be very interesting. Checks a couple boxes that Getz has reportedly been interested in - positions players that are very young with good potential but still a couple years away from mlb.

Arroyo + Collier + Lewis

Reds are a hell no for me. Boston, Philly, Cubs, Orioles all could offer better packages more hitter friendly.

Why so? I like Arroyo, Stewart, Collier, Lewis. Could see a package built around two or three of those guys for sure.

Boston, Cubs, Phillies I think can give you  a stronger package with a higher upside headliner. Boston is loaded with offense in their system while Cubs have like 9 top 100 guys virtually all hitters (besides Horton). Philly has strong headline piece in Miller and some really good pieces to go along too with one or both of Crawford and Caba.

Maybe a Hell no was a bit aggressive lol but I much prefer those other 3 teams and what they can offer package wise.

As far as the Cubs, it would have to be a package built around Shaw and Cassie I think but I doubt they’re that serious about Crochet. Their starting rotation is pretty much set as is.

Just my opinion but I don’t think you’d hey both. I think you’d have to look at something closer to

Caissie

Triantos

Rojas

that might even be a little rich in Cubs eyes.

I just don’t think the Cubs have a glaring hole in their rotation after signing Boyd unless they’re considering moving Assad to the pen?

Yea I’m not sure about that part. I could see Assad to the pen. Had some Cubs buddies of mine tell me same thing. Would love to deal with them though personally. Just a surplus of hitters.

I don’t think they’re want 4 lefties in their rotation either.
