WhiteSox2023
“Yankees acquired RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and international signing bonus pool money from the Red Sox for C Carlos Narváez. The interesting wrinkle here is the international bonus pool money, which could factor into the impending Roki Sasaki sweepstakes. Rodriguez-Cruz was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and has yet to pitch above High-A. He’s a lottery ticket for the Yankees.”

While I want to dismiss it out of hand - it actually could. If he's the Opening Day starter and could make the All-Star game, he makes more money and you know there are still voters who would go "OD starter? All-Star?" and give him Rookie of the Year votes based on that. Rookie of the Year gets him to free agency faster. Basically, they need to lean really, really hard on "look what we did with Crochet." Wasn't it Sasaki whose agent said that a smaller market team could wind up with him because he's looking for more of a soft landing in MLB than being "the man" in NYC or LA? I think if the Sox were serious about him, they could certainly make a credible push for Sasaki. 1

He's be the immediate star on the team, coming off the worst record in the history of the game. I'm glad they aren't sitting it out, but I have a hard time seeing this kid not choose a team that is better setup to at least give him the chance at the postseason. Kyyle23
If this happened(which, LOL. I can’t even imagine this being an option for him but whatever), feels like a signing that is meant to be traded later. And if he showed up and showed out, and a bunch of good teams were interested, that’s wonderful. Seems like a huge stretch though. Not like when Hawk first started saying “get back there, stretch” and it might be a homer, but more like towards the end and he really didn’t know if it was close to the fence and was guessing

Chicago White Sox
I’m glad they are going after Sasaki because every team should be throwing their name in the hat. Landing him should be near impossible, but one thing Getz appears to be good at is selling his vision to people. And I think there are selling points to be made for the Sox if you can ignore the historically bad team that’s multiple years away from competing. However, if he wants to enjoy the benefits of living in a major market without the pressures of playing for a real large market club he will be hard pressed to find something better.

This angle, if true, makes me think the Mariners are the better landing spot. Ichiro is a Seattle icon and is still heavily involved with the team, giving him a cultural connection. He'd be joining a stellar rotation where he'd just be another piece and not have to deal with the pressures of being the face of the franchise. They are also much closer to being a contending team than the White Sox, and don't have the baggage of being the worst team in history. I don't have the exact text of the question that was asked of his agent, but the articles out there strongly suggest that the "mid to small market" description was in reply to a question about the Padres. Quote By Tuesday, Sasaki's agent Joel Wolfe felt confident his client would strongly consider a small-to-mid market team including the San Diego Padres. "I think that there's an argument to be made that a smaller, mid-market team might be more beneficial for him as a soft landing," Wolfe told reporters in Dallas. Wolfe added, "I would assume that would be a team that he would seriously consider."

Iguchis been quoted a few years back as wanting to be in a Sox uniform again. What better way to celebrate the 2005 team than to have Iguchi back in uniform and bringing along the pitcher to lead the Sox to their next championship . I'm sure Sasaki must remember Iguchi fondly for trying to set up a program along with the pitching coach to both protect and strengthen him.Certainly Getz could point out how much Garrett Crochet benefitted from how the Sox handled and strengthened him as a selling point to Iguchi who would then convey it to Sasaki. Hey it's more of a connection than a lot of teams have.

Not everyone cares about how bad they are right now or judge everything White Sox negatively .There are people that have positive dispositions that they use to approach what most see as a bad situation. Apparently they don't have many attractions to get people to celebrate the 2005 teams' 20th Anniversary. Just need to insulate Iguchi and Sasaki away from the anger that may turn up at the event. I got it all planned out already .Idle hands apparently are the devil's workshop. Edited Thursday at 08:35 PM by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
