Between Vargas or Ramos covering 3B, Sosa likely at 2B, you can start Baldwin and have Amaya as a cheap backup.

That could be an entire list of backup players.  I don’t buy into ST competitions, but all of these guys should be competing for playing time with each other.

It won’t happen though, because Getz can’t find any quality position players to actually field an MLB quality lineup.

The Sox are the ugly guy at closing time. We get the drunks and the really hard up.

Couldn’t that go the other way?  The Sox are like the drunk guy that stays at the bar until closing time and picks out its targets with beer goggles on, and usually chooses poorly…

Nah if you’re not going to spend on anyone good, play these guys. Montgomery should also be up at SS at some point.

After his performance last season, whatever the cause, please don't rush him up until he actually looks like he can handle a promotion.

Baldwin is going to have to put together an amazing spring training, because the time out with injury/inactivity in Aug/Sept. and the sheer amount of responsibilities for a major league SS are going to make Charlotte a much likelier destination for more seasoning.

Odds are looking like closer to 75-80% that Montgomery is destined for 3B eventually...plus the physical demands of the SS position are such that a player who battled

injuries all last season might be better off in a less taxing position, where he can rely more on reflexes/instincts.   The biggest plus for him is going to be offensively, so

it's advisable not to put him in a situation where defensive struggles/questions start to impact the other side of his game.

I feel a little sorry for Nicky. He came and gave us a season that was totally in line with his career numbers and he didn't get hurt every few weeks. This was far more than can be said about most of the people on the 2024 team.

You could theoretically bring him back for a couple mill. Giving him the $5M we would have gotten in arb would have been insane.

That being said, just give those at bats to guys already in the org (Sosa, Baldwin, Amaya, etc.).  Colson will factor into the infield mix by June too.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to Braden Shewmake?  After getting demoted early the season, he played of a bit in Charlotte, hit the IL and never heard an update rest of season.  Kinda weird.

40-man roster fat as I'm concerned. Just as he was for the Braves last year.
