Andrew Benintendi on the trade market (duh)

Keep Crochet. Our rotation could be incredible with him and Noah Schultz at the top. They both have the ability to dominate line-ups.

Sure, but it’s obvious Jerry doesn’t want to spend money on him or good free agent position players.  So Getz is going to trade him for position player prospects.

“In these particular discussions, an unnamed team proposed taking on all or most of Benintendi’s remaining contract. Whether the White Sox seriously entertained this idea is unknown”

Not sure how that substantiates the claim the Sox want to package him with Crochet

Who else on the Sox carries the type of value to eat $50 million for…?

Schultz Smith or Montgomery are the only other names that are halfway plausible.

Yep, pretty crazy.  Jerry is going to be banking those savings.  Yet another long rebuild means more $$$.

Financially, the other reason multi year deals are problematic is that they have to be paid regardless of the revenue stream or financial status of the owner.

If the team was sold, the new owners would need to have that $50 million in available liquid assets, cash not stock.

If the team plays two seasons in a AAA ballpark in Nashville, they have to pay that deal regardless of their ticket and broadcast revenue.

Clearing out long term expenses is a hedge against uncertainty, when you expect the near term revenue to be unstable as would happen if a team was moved and money had to be raised to construct a new ballpark.

If they trade Beni, Robert, and Crochet, projected payroll sits at ~$30M. Only the A’s are projected for less.

I don’t think Robert is traded until the deadline and no one is taking Benintendi unless he’s paired with Crochet.  I still don’t believe they would actually do that.

You didn’t notice that their number one priority this offseason was a platoon corner OF?

Can we stop with this nonsense?  We have no reason to believe (yet) that Slater was anything but their #1 target for a weak-side platoon OF role.  If this ends up being their most expensive free agent addition then flame away, but it seems very apparent to me that Slater’s comment should be taken in the context of his specific role.

Is this a real post?

Benintendi is fine if he plays like the end of last season.  Keep Crochet and Robert and bring up Montgomery, Quero, and Schultz.  Spend on a few medium-priced free agents to see if the WS can be respectable.  There won't be a future fan base if today's kids don't have some "stars" to admire.  I can't believe Jerry wants to leave with this current situation as his legacy.

I mean, we already know Getz isn’t spending much this offseason in free agency.  He said so himself two months ago.

For the half season they're on the major league club together (if both are healthy), on an (at best) 85-90 loss team, and then watch Crochet go to FA without any return but a potential comp pick?

Honestly, what's even the point in spending $ in free agency this offseason? They should just see what they have with the fringe guys.

Literally they should just be shopping for flip candidates and looking to fill ABs and IPs to keep from rushing important guys.  That's it.  I honestly don't care if they spend zero this off season, as there is nothing out there to help them in the few years anyway.  Best case is to get someone in a trade from some flip candidate this year.  Maybe you get a reliever, or luck out and have your scouting actually work and find a starter somehow.

I know that and don’t get me wrong, it’s all somewhat embarrassing, but there is a difference between a $2M bench piece and an Erick Fedde caliber signing and I feel pretty confident they will add a guy or two in that range of a deal.  Ultimately there is plenty we can rip Getz for that we don’t need to purposely take a second hand comment out of context to do so.

I fully agree.  But I would say the optics of a $2M signing being our biggest and only real addition would be bad.  I still think they add a couple more pieces to fill out the roster, but zero reason to sign C tier free agents to block the fringe prospects we already have in place like DeLoach, Fletcher, Sosa, & Lee IMO.

Right, seems pointless to shop him now. If he can just hit for his career average numbers next season, he looks a whole lot better with only two years left on the deal. I can't imagine a scenario where the Sox eat $50 mil or whatever he's still owed. Some team might take on $30mil in salary if he can produce 3 WAR next season.

I could see spending some $ on a SP and a reliever or two as flips.  Maybe a SS to hold down the fort until Colson is ready, but I'd just let Baldwin have a crack at it with Sosa holding down 2B. Otherwise an milb deal catcher or two, and they should be fine.  Plus whatever mlb ready positional prospect they bring in with Crochet deal.

2025 has a great chance of being worse than 2024.

Not likely. It takes way more than a "lack of talent" to lose 120 games. Teams full of AAA caliber players usually still win in the upper 40s, you need real dysfunction on top of a lack of talent to pull off what happened last year.
