It also doesn’t make much sense.  Elias doesn’t want to spend any money but gives $49.5 million to Tyler O’Neill when he already has a dirt cheap and good replacement outfielder for Anthony Santander in Heston Kjerstad?  He gives $8.5 million to Gary Sanchez to fill a backup catcher and DH against lefties role?

If Elias neglects to improve the Orioles rotation this offseason, maybe I’ll buy this story.  But those two moves don’t really line up with a GM who doesn’t want to spend money and that desperately needs to bolster his rotation.

If reports came out that said the same about Chris Getz, I'd sure a $8.5 million dollar deal for Gary Sanchez would stop you from criticizing.

The offseason isn’t over yet.  If Elias doesn’t improve his rotation by the start of the season, he definitely fucked up.

Meanwhile, Elias didn’t set the modern record for losses like Getz did.  But I guess Getz just made one good trade so all of that is forgotten, huh?  🤣

Honestly, he kind of sounds like Chris Getz.  Shopping in the discount bin for sure.

I know people don't like BTV but here is their SV estimates for Reds prospects of note (Reds are one of the "free" teams this week on their site)...

Arroyo 13.7

Burns 24.7

Collier 12.2

Petty 12

Stafura 8.2

Stewart 8.2

If Getz and staff liked what they saw of Arroyo in the AFL and are convinced hes healthy, if these estimates are even roughly accurate, Arroyo should be gettable for Robert. If it's a salary issue for CIN, if you throw in 2-3m of the 15m maybe that will help too. We're still shedding 85% of Robert's salary and also the option years so JR should still be happy especially if you can get a cost controlled young SS that can stick.

Except Elias is doing it out of ego and belief that he is smarter than everyone else (and he might in fact be smarter than everyone outside of LA and TB) whereas Getz is doing it out of necessity.

I’d really push for Collier, his swing is so smooth, think he’d be a very professional hitter, I know another corner guy but the one issue we all complained about was depth so bring him in if the Reds are willing

Collier has a great bat and id love to have him, but Getz isn't going to want 50 different 3B, imo I believe he is laser focused on SS and CF.

Basically I think he is waiting for either CIN to agree to Arroyo or PHI to agree to Crawford, whichever blinks first.

That should definitely be the focus — SS and CF.  Everyone can be moved around later, if needed.

If Getz is able to trade Robert for Arroyo or Crawford, that’s a great offseason for the future, even if he doesn’t make another move.

Reds fans seem interested in Robert which is nice to see.  Most opposing fans see a player coming off a bad year and assume they’re done forever.

Reds should be going for it. Weak division and you just hired a great manager.

Coupe of interesting quotes from the Reds board:

”I’d be fine giving up one of Collier/Arroyo/Petty and one of Lewis/Stafura if that’s what it takes.”

”White Sox got an absolute haul for Crochet, I'm glad we didn't do anything at that price. Fortunately they didn't get a premier SS or SP, so the Arroyo/Petty offer should still be enticing for them.”

”After seeing the Crochet deal, I think the Reds would have to part with two of their top 10 prospects to get Roberts, Jr.”

”Id take Burns and Duno off the table. Pick any 2 prospects you want and I'll include Marte as a 3rd piece.”

“Arroyo and Petty is a fair offer for Robert Jr IMO. One top 100 guy and another who will be there with a good start to 2025. Both are still really young at 21 and would fit the White Sox window when they are MLB ready in a year or two. If they expect more than that(like Lowder and Collier) they are going to be disappointed.”

Robert does make a ton of sense for them.  Plus for small market clubs like the Reds, you can’t really go out and buy potential stars.  I could see a match here that works for both sides.

There's a very strong possibility that Luis Robert goes somewhere else and hits 30 Hr's and drives in 80+.  I would be perfectly fine with that because it has not worked here, sometimes you just need to let someone go and whatever happens ......happens

Looks like we basically posted at the same time.  An Arroyo, Petty + package would be great for Robert and Reds fans seem to agree

They're viewing Robert more highly than I think we all are.. That's good.

I feel better moving him after the trade yesterday. At this point I'm onto thinking about the next good Sox team and he isn't on it.

Um, those were lateral moves, arguably downgrades, because the two guys previously in those roles (OF - Santander, backup C - McCann) left for free agency. His roster is getting more expensive, indeed, but he has done nothing to improve the roster that finished 40-41 in the second half of 2024 and got swept out of the playoffs by the Royals.
