White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

At this point? Probably me.

I’m probably bigger than most here on Crawford and it would be hard for me to say no.  Doesn’t draw a ton of walks and is still a work in progress in CF, but has all the physical tools to be really good CF.  Still only 20 years old and was fairly productive with the bat in AA.  Abel is just a roll of the dice at this point, but could worth the gamble as project for Bannister.

Just using the MLB site. Not commenting on what I think he is, he certainly had a bad showing last year but is talented. And I said the Sox might not want him. I probably would ask for one of their young OF prospects instead as a second to Caba.

Even if he's a 45 that seems like quite a bit for Robert right now.

Who here would do Crawford + Abel for Robert?

Not I.  I would at least insist on throwing in Bohm: meaning what the third team is willing to give up for him. Or maybe two more interesting prospects in their 10 to 20 range.
In all, I would prefer to wait for June or July.

Yesterday.  I think you would have to be nuts not to accept that offer.  The Phillies #3 and #6 prospects to not have to worry about the following:

*  Robert getting injured and tanking his value further

*  Robert underperforming again like last season and tanking his value further

*  Being forced to trade him with even lower value by next season’s trade deadline for the reasons above.  What if he’s injured during the trade deadline?  The Sox get screwed of any return, because you know that Jerry would have Getz give him his buyout.

Even if you think Robert will turn it around next season which may be a good gamble, the risk is mostly in his ability to stay healthy by the deadline.  I wouldn’t bet a dollar on that.

What’s your issue with that trade?

Seems like a lot of players (that I've heard of, they must be good) to give up for Robert. Pipedream would be to get back Caba and Crawford imo. After we trade Robert, who even has the ability to play center field? Sign some defensive specialist, maybe, a guy like Blake Perkins, but it would be a shame to lose Robert's (theoretical) offensive ability or just swap it over to a less important position. If Montgomery2 pans out, that would be nice, but then the hole in right field moves to center field.

Montgomery1 probably can't play shortstop, I'm not sure anyone in the system has the range, but you could give him until 2027 to try to make it work. When he inevitably moves to third (or first), Caba should be ready. I mean, he's 19, so he still has plenty of time to blow it (especially in the Sox system), but his athleticism and defensive ability makes me think he's going to be a gold glove contender for a long time even if he doesn't figure out how to hit the ball. Phillies had a CF prospect like that though, forget his name, but I think they DFA'd him this past season.

have heard abel is declining in value

and that crawford is an athlete who hits grounders

Crawford is an athlete right now who doesn’t run great routes and hits a lot of grounders, but also has great tools and held his own as a 20 year old in AA.  He is still a work in progress, but I personally think the upside is worst the risk.

I would prefer to get a SS as the primary piece for Robert, although I like Crawford as a prospect. Caba seems like he's got a good chance to be an MLB level SS defensively, but his offensive profile doesn't seem like more than a late order hitter who can get on and steal a base, but little else.

My hope is that the Reds are interested. I'd prefer Arroyo to Caba or Crawford, and I actually really like Chase Petty as a second piece.

I highly doubt we can pull both Arroyo and Petty from CIN and I doubt Krall will even give up Arroyo alone.

I'd think he will at some point, with De la Cruz there at SS for quite awhile and maybe to take a shot with Francona there. Maybe not for Robert though.

If we get that much for Robert I will eat a soiled pair of underwear after the have been boiled in raspberry juice.

The Sox should prioritize bats, but they are so far away from contention that I don’t get trading for specific positions. They need all the talent they can get, especially now.
