WhiteSox2023
And Jerry wouldn’t sign Harper or Machado for $330 to $350 million. This is over double just 5 years later. Please go away Jerry, one way or another… Edited December 9 by WhiteSox2023

Kyyle23
The Sox had a table at the restaurant. It was in back, for the dishwashers when they were on break. Gum is under the table, dirty Carols number is etched in the fake wood pattern. This was the Sox sitting at the table

Not that doing so would guarantee a $100+ million contract unless it was written into the contract with the State/City...guaranteed min. payroll clause. caulfield12
The deal is the largest in sports history. Soto’s contract does not contain deferrals and includes an opt-out after five seasons. Soto will team with NL MVP runner-up Francisco Lindor on a team that surprised in 2024 and now will assume World Series expectations for next season and perhaps far beyond. https://nypost.com/2024/12/08/sports/juan-soto-signing-with-mets-on-15-year-765-million-contract/ Edited December 9 by caulfield12

HOFHurt35
MLB is so broken. 2 teams (even if by their own doing) are literally homeless while one player is taking 3/4 of a $Billion home. Contract half the league (or go the Euro Soccer route), and let the 8 big spenders run up payrolls into the $500 millions and make this more entertaining. Not sure we can blame the Rays for a hurricane tearing their roof off...unless you were counting the White Sox as almost homeless with the current state of the organization.

If that’s what it takes to sign a first ballot hall of famer in his prime then that’s what you do.
caulfield12
$765/$75 million (Benintendi)...so the White Sox are basically less than 1/10th of a "modern" competitive MLB franchise (ever since the Dodgers' cable deal for $2+ billion).

I doubt the Padres and Phillies care. Of course they don't. Those deals are bargain deals right now. Both teams turned into contenders as well. Meanwhile the Sox trying to dump benentendis deal to further reduce payroll. MLB is broken because they never instituted a floor. That was far more important than cap limits and luxury tax. It enables trash owners to be trash owners. Anyway, i would try to move Crochet and Robert to the Yankees for Seth and Dominguez

EloyJenkins
I have a die-hard Mets fan friend. His comment upon the news "it's not my money....weeeee". If you aren't a Dodgers or Mets fan, your chance of signing a marquee free agent has to be below 10%. This league is broken and honestly makes it so much easier to just let go being a Sox fan. Until Jerry dies there is zero point to even care.
