Jesus, even the homeless A's are spending money.  God I hate being a Sox fan these days.

Seriously. When even the cheap ass A's are handing out 20+M AAV deals for pitching, Jerry's assbackwardness looks even more behind the times.

Just sell the damn team already FFS.

There have been some articles saying that the As will be putting out their highest ever payroll this year to start building attention while they’re moving.

On one hand, this bodes well for the Crochet trade market.

On the other hand, this mean that even Chris Flexen is out of the Sox price range.

It also means that turning Davis Martin into a cheap, controllable SP could pay dividends at the deadline or next offseason.

Exactly. I think I said you could trade Davis Martin next because of his age if he can stay healthy  and put up some good peripherals. He'd be right in a good age for starting pitching peak years .

They were the only team behind the White Sox in revenues in 2024...and are going into a AAA stadium for at least the next three seasons.

Puts the White Sox plight under the microscope even more, when trading Fedde was also about shedding future salary to an extent.

So Jessie Scholtens...please come back.

Or Flexen.

BREAKING: Right-hander Luis Severino and the A’s are in agreement on a three-year, $67 million contract, sources tell ESPN. It is the largest guarantee in the history of the A’s franchise. And even with the qualifying offer attached, Severino got well over market expectations.

— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 5, 2024

The deal is the largest free-agent contract in Athletics franchise history, and it included a $10 million signing bonus and opt-out clause following the second season, per Passan.

The Athletics' move to southern Nevada is expected to take a major step forward Thursday when the 30-year lease, non-relocation and development documents are likely to be approved by the Las Vegas Stadium Authority following a rise in the estimated cost of the ballpark by $250 million to $1.75 billion.

Those agreements could be the last major hurdles before construction can begin in the spring on a Las Vegas Strip stadium projected to open for the start of the 2028 season, a ballpark in which underseat cooling is planned.

No, it actually puts the A's under the microscope. Yes they have to spend. They just kicked themselves out of Oakland. Right before Tampa is telling the Rays to stick it. Big city owners are getting tired of the owners who take the profit sharing and laugh. So, yeah, the A's have to sign a few free agents to keep enough of their fellow owners voting for their decisions that fall under league approval.

I get your being sarcastic, but clearly we’d be trading him or any starter that we deem expendable for positional prospects.

So, the next Miguel Vargas?

Damn, would suck to miss out on another Gavin Sheets!  😉

Think of all the money saved from twenty years of Sox second round busts, though...

They would have accumulated enough to fix their hypothetical (dating back to 80s threat to move) St. Pete dome roof that wasn't exactly hurricane-proof.

The number of fans going to see Severino specifically would probably cancel out Benintendi-specific fans in Chicago.

The willingness to spend/invest is the key aspect here, as noted.

And at least they have the makings of a young offensive core out there...Rooker picked up some MVP votes.

So do we prefer low payroll, stay in Chicago or high payroll and moving? High payroll, stay in Chicago just isn't a choice at this point in the build.

A bit too early to make this claim but hopefully he is the real deal and the Sox take more guys like him rather than what they have done historically in the 2nd round.

This is old news and no longer relevant.  The Sox have taken high schoolers with five of their last seven 2nd round picks.  The other two picks were two higher ceiling SPs coming off TJS (one of which is Taylor).  There is plenty to rip the White Sox for, an outdated draft strategy isn’t one of them.
