The Pennsylvania native made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 1963, then won NL Rookie of the Year in 1964. He remained in Philadelphia through the end of the 1969 season, at which point he demanded a trade and got sent to the St. Louis Cardinals. 6 years in Philly versus 9 with the White Sox, lol... https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/former-chicago-white-sox-mvp-winner-dick-allen-to-wear-philadelphia-phillies-cap-on-hall-of-fame-plaque-class-of-2025-classic-era-committee-01jkrjp82q71 Expand You know what...nevermind. Expand 👍👍👍 You better save your energy for attacking the Nick Pivetta signing, KBO signing...the general worthiness of the Heyward/Connor Joe platoon, etc. If that fails, you can go after Machado's deal, Bogaerts' deal or Cronenworth's deal (which doesn't even seem ALL that terrible after watching the money the Dodgers are throwing around for guys like Edman). Or threatening Dylan Cease or Michael King trades to various teams. Edited February 14 by caulfield12

Expand https://www.mlb.com/player/dick-allen-110157 It's probably more accurate to say the equivalent of 6 1/2 seasons. I don't know what would be the justification for going in as a member of the White (besides the MVP season in a Sox jersey) if he hadn't at least played MORE games in a Sox than Phillies jersey. Thought I saw where he'd played 9 years in Chicago, but that was OBVIOUSLY WAY WAY OFF. It's my mistake because I read an article about his career and hadn't realized he finished in 1975 and 1976 in Philly...he even had an 826 OPS at the age of 34 with them and finished with a 721 OPS at age 35 (OAK). South Side Fireworks Man
I thought Dick Allen himself said he wanted to go into the HOF with a White Sox cap. Chicago was the only city that made him feel welcomed. And he said his happiest years were in Chicago. His family should have honored his wishes. Expand In one of his last interviews he spoke with Paul Sullivan of the tribune and that is what he said, he wanted to go in wearing a White Sox cap. At the 40th anniversary celebration for him and the 1972 team he also said at the dinner where he spoke that he wished he could have played his entire career in Chicago. He said the fan base understood the game and appreciated the little things like moving runners over into scoring position.
Milkman delivers
You guys are understandably more concerned with DA’s hat, but I’m over here picturing Sabathia in a Cleveland hat even if he spent more time in New York.
