“The 2023 White Sox were well led and that is the type of thing we should repeat, find me more players who look like that” is the kind of thing we should be pointing and laughing at.

Who said the 2023 White Sox were well lead?  I guarantee no one.

I’m not following.  Are you suggesting the veterans we brought in last offseason like DeJong, Lopez, & Maldonado were bad clubhouse guys?

JFC dude, do you make everything about race?  Like, where did I ever mention anything about Tauchman being white?  He’s a veteran…full stop.  He appears to be a fairly professional dude with no major red flags.  He’s a disciplined hitter who makes good swing decisions.  He doesn’t have to be Barrack Obama to lead by example and provide a positive influence on the younger players.

Also, you keep bringing up the 2023 White Sox, a team that literally imploded because of poor chemistry and underperformance under an incredibly weak first year manager.  Guess who they lost the offseason before?  Jose Abreu, a great clubhouse presence and role model to the younger guys.  You may think these guys are all robots, but having good veteran leadership does matter.  It’s absolutely wild to me that you think otherwise and are race baiting on top of it.

Oh ok, so the 2022 White Sox are the team you think of as having strong character and leadership.

With an option to not rush their development because you have no other options.

I see these types of signing as guys volunteering to go as tribute.

Not sure if serious or not, but these guys at all 26/27 and have already played in big leagues.  None of them would be getting rushed at this point, and the Sox need to figure out what they have with each of Fletcher, Deloach and Colas this season.  Even if you want to assume the Sox are done with Colas (which him remaining on the 40 man would potentially suggest otherwise), it still applies to the other two.

Even if we somehow get A+ version of Tauchman from April-June, you're getting (at best) at backend top 30 flyer or a AAAA type.  Just play the fringe guys and see what we have.  It doesn't make any sense within the context of the whole roster and where things stand.

That being said, Tauchman is a big leaguer, is probably better than all three of those guys and I can't imagine costs more than $3-4M.  So its not like this is some brutal move, it just doesn't make a lot of sense considering the circumstances.

Chris Getz likes AAAA players like he was.

Best post of the thread.  Tauchman probably is a nice clubhouse guy and all but what point does he have on this roster?  You aren’t trading him for any good return no matter what he does in the first half and he just prevents younger guys from getting at bats.  I can see Robert getting moved but what team is taking Benintendi?  That’s a pipe dream, unless Getz is neutering the return of Crochet or Robert with his inclusion.

Then play your likely AAAA players in RF instead of blocking them to maybe acquire more AAAA and 40 man fodder later.

1c-a. The pitcher is not allowed to do a motion to the, uh, batter, that prohibits the batter from doing, you know, just trying to hit the ball. You can't do that.

1c-b. Once the pitcher is in the stretch, he can't be over here and say to the runner, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna tag you out! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that.

1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to pitch and then don't pitch, you have to still pitch. You cannot not pitch. Does that make any sense?

1c-b(2). You gotta be, throwing motion of the ball, and then, until you just throw it.

1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have the ball up here, like this, but then there's the balk you gotta think about.

There was that Walker for Benintendi rumor floated this weekend (don’t remember if it was from a credible source) but if that was possible as a 1-for-1 swap with no money changing hands I would do it.

Who is he blocking? Dominic Fletcher who you spent all of last year saying was absolutely awful and they traded for the wrong guy? There is obviously something going on with Colas that stretches back years at this point. Deloach is just fodder.

I hated the Fletcher trade and it is objectively the wrong call to block any of those three guys with Slater + Tauchman.

You just mentioned three guys that are all younger than Tauchman.  So you are basically saying there is no reason to play those guys because Colas has been blackballed by the Sox and the other two guys were bust acquisitions by Getz?  Do you really want to see a 34 year old dude starting in RF for this team with where it’s at?

I think the only one who matters would be Fletcher, and I think Fletcher will get plenty of playing time. The future success of the White Sox does not rely on Deloach.

What should be happening is Colas should have been your everyday RFer starting last year, but obviously we have no idea what is going on with that.

Oh!! Oh!! Ooooooohhhhh!!! I know this one. NOBODY.

If Robert's traded and Benny's moved to DH, they have 3 OF spots to cover. As you correctly inferred, Fletcher, Colas and DeLoach will not be the title of the hit song about the White Sox 5-Championships-in-a-row dynasty. Zavala and Wolkow might be longshots at being prospects in a couple years. Most of the 2027 starting OF isn't even in the organization, yet.

But right now we have the DH slot open, so one of the young OFs should be able to get playing time on the regular.  And it seems very apparent to me that Getz is trying to move Robert & Benintendi.  I’m going to wait and see what happens before overreact to this.  If they move even one of them, then adding Tauchman makes all the sense in the world.

I would have preferred signing a guy like Max Kepler on a rebound type of deal. At least that could have some upside.

I get you need to fill a roster but collecting guys you can possibly trade for something interesting later should be the priority. Not a guy like Tauchmann.

Whatever. It is what it is I guess. No creativity no imagination.

Slater isn’t blocking anyone though, he’s a platoon bat and all our AAAA OFs are lefties.  Tauchman could be blocking someone, but the offseason isn’t over yet.

Also, it’s not like these would be untradable.  We literally were able to turn Robbie Grossman into a useful relief prospect.  FWIW, Tauchman put up the most fWAR last year of any positional guy currently on the roster.  He’s a very solid role player and will be dirt cheap, so he won’t be hard to move if need be.
