Jake Burger traded to TEX

Miami is expected to receive a package of three Minor Leaguers in return that includes SS/2B Echedry Vargas, Texas' No. 17 prospect, and shortstop Max Acosta. The teams have not confirmed the trade.

Only Corey Seager (30) hit more homers than Burger in the Rangers' lineup last season.

Looks like Mendoza is at least three to four years away, was a solid LH starter in A ball in 2024 (2.18 ERA in the Carolina League) and will be making the jump to High A in 2025.

Well since Eder seems to be a bust that is a bet anyone will take. 😆

I've been assured by this very website that Jake Eder is exactly the type of guy you take a chance on

Marlins must really like Acosta to commit a 40 man spot to him. He dropped from 100 Ks in 2023 to 58 last year and he just had a good AFL stint, so there's that.

Yea because otherwise I don’t get it. A 45 FV prospect and two prospects outside the Marlins T30 is arguably worse than Eder’s 50 FV and pushing for T100 mlb prospect status at the time of the first trade. Mind you, Burger had 38 homers in a little over 700 ABs and had become a big fan favorite in Miami since the trade.

Yep… high risk high reward who seems to be yet another Kenny Hahn bust-o-matic special 2000.

Oops

Oops what?  You’d rather have a 26 year old pitcher with a career minor league ERA over 5 than three young prospects?  Good luck with that.

For someone who has talked about getting back quantity in trades, that really makes no sense.

I thought the trade was incredibly dumb, but he is 26 now. Not 26 when they traded for him. That's misleading.

”Who wants to bet the return is better than one Jake Eder?”

I never said Jake Eder at the time the Sox traded Burger.  It’s also been a year and a half later for Burger too.

Is the return better? Looks like it's just a little more garbage than one piece of garbage.

I’m not sure what “at the time of the initial trade” matters at this point?  The same 1.5 years have passed for both Burger and Eder.  Eder has pretty much busted and Burger has continued to hit some dongs in the majors without any defense.

The Marlins got back the Rangers #17 ranked prospect, plus two additional prospects, for Burger.  Meanwhile, Eder is currently the White Sox #22 ranked prospect.

At the time of trade, Eder was a 50 FV guy and just outside T100 lists. Add to that, Burger supposedly increased his trade value since moving to the Marlins and this trade return looks extremely underwhelming.

Then the Chris Sale trade was one of the worst in Sox history considering how Moncada and Kopech turned out with the Sox.
