I don’t know about all that but hopefully he’s a genetic splice of Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis. It would be nice if he can be a legit starter at 2B. Where's Jack Parkwoman at to throw some water on these flames? I can throw water on the flames as well as anybody but I won't. The person who said they'd trade Meidroth for Crochet is being silly. I'm optimistic cause I'm down on pitchers' value as a whole and the Sox acquired 3 position players. I just wish Monte2 was ready earlier than 2026. kitekrazy
Hopefully in a few years it's not another rinse and repeat. The biggest black hole is the ownership. Be giddy all you want over these prospects but development and scouting will be suspect. I guess you can be thrilled with Birmingham.
tray
I originally stated that we needed to evaluate this trade based primarily on Braden Montgomery while not being overly concerned about the other 3 pieces in the trade. After doing all the things we do on the net to research players, I will go one step further. I would have traded Crochet for Braden Montgomery straight up. This player has it all - size foot speed, bat speed, a cannon arm, a switch hitter, etc. He is an educated soft spoken kid that is humble and thoughtful which we all like here on the South side. Reason to start getting excited for this rebuild. Even without further trades, Bennintendi, Robert Jr., and Braden Montgomery would be an excellent outfield.

Joe Borchard was all of those characteristics and more... Obviously if he's passed his physical from both the Red and White Sox side, that would constitute due diligence. But there's no real basis for arguing he's worth two years of prime Crochet all alone...not yet. Not without even a single MiLB at-bat to his name.
Falstaff
I am feeling positive about the trade and all the changes Getz has made at scouting and coaching. I think it is going to pay off having coaches like Grady and Will mentor players. The respect level from the players will be off the chart and on the pitching side Bannister has the same impact. With JR at 88 years old, Sox pitching studs presently in the organization have a better chance of being extended by the new owner. I kinda like him as the plate discipline is really good but I'm a bit skeptical if the power is enough to play in the majors to more than a solid utility role. Those AAA parks often make power play up and defenses in milb aren't as good. Those mlb defenses analyze you very well and if you don't hit the ball very hard that 320 babip can become a 280 babip very quickly and all of a sudden that 300 hitter in AAA becomes a 260 hitter in mlb. Also at 23 his power is probably maxed out at mlb parks might actually make the power play down a little. Even his walks while they still will be a strength won't be quite as high in mlb as they where in AAA if he can't hurt pitchers with power. I still like him as a piece, he definitely should be a better utility piece than mendick and leury due to his plate discipline but unless he surprisingly has an unexpected power increase don't expect him to be a 300/400/400 hitter but more like 250/340/330 or so. Teel is a nice get, I think he can become an average starting catcher or a little better. Montgomery I'm skeptical. Lots of tools and could be really good but struck out a lot in college. If can can hit above 250 he would be a very nice player but we don't know that. Teel is the one that really hurts the red sox. Meidroth is a nice piece but very blocked in Boston and Montgomery is years away and red sox set up well in the OF but at catcher they could miss him, they don't have an obvious answer there. Chicago White Sox
I mean, look at this dude. Just a pure American athlete whose mix of elite plate discipline and bat to ball skills make him a legit unicorn. If he can replicate that +.400 OBP in the majors, it would put him in a small of group mega-stars of just Aaron Judge & Juan Soto. And while he doesn’t have the power that those two do, he makes up for it with heart and drive that few others actually possess.
Chicago White Sox
That video above said he had a game in which he had six plate appearance plate and took 45 fucking pitches. That’s 7.5 pitches on average. Again, I’m not kidding when I say this kid is a unicorn. He’s going to be a very untraditional leadoff hitter who will do his damage by working up pitch counts like crazy, constantly getting on base, and putting stress on the opposing pitcher.

Honestly having him and Tauchman in the lineup could do wonders for the overall offense. Be nice to have a few guys who aren’t going to sit down after a four pitch strikeout or two pitch groundout.

It could be, but more than likely Robert will be traded before Montgomery makes the majors. Benintendi might be gone as well via a swap of bad contracts / salary dump, if Jerry has his way and Getz finds a willing suitor. I remember 4-5 years ago I looked and 18-19% k rate in college that I could still find productive to good major leaguers. Hes really testing it at 20%, but I would say the game in college has changed a lot. Pitchers have been striking way more guys out, and I’d imagine the new technology plus pitching in college may have advanced it past the hitters. We’ll see if there is just a new top for acceptable k rates. I could see it being an obvious flaw we should have seen…or an obvious caveat that the NIL SEC + pitching development is just a new baseline

If Getz can move Robert for a good SS prospect, you can always slide Montgomery over to 3B eventually and improve the defense on the entire left side. Colson is a pretty big dude at 6’3”, 225 and may be better suited for 3B in the long run. Edited December 12 by WhiteSox2023

I watched a lot of Meidroth videos last night. His swing is short and quick and I think he hits the ball a bit harder than he’s probably given credit for. Don’t get me wrong, he has below average power but his hard hit rate and average EV in AAA was middle of the pack. The biggest issue for him is that his launch angle is very low and he chops a bunch of balls into the ground. If he can find a way to turn more of those into line drives, I think he can eventually be a much more impactful hitter than you’re thinking. And for the record, Steamer 600 is projecting a slash line of .242/.356/.701, so they agree with you on the BABIP regression coming to the majors. But given the high OBP, that slash is still worth a 107 wRC+ despite a very low ISO. And that’s for him as a 23 year old rookie. If he can be close to an average defender at 2B, then that’s probably a 2 win player. That is the part I’m most uncertain about, but he looked pretty solid out there in the videos I saw even though his range will certainly be limited but probably fine for 2B.
Hamhock
Superior plate discipline will be ideal once there’s automated balls/strikes in the majors; until then, he will be a bit at the mercy of the league’s worst umpires ringing him up on calls 4” outside because “he has to pay his dues” or some other mumbojumbo. Snopek
This NY Post article is a nightmare on mobile so click at your own peril, but per Heyman: “The Yankees failed to land star left-hander Garrett Crochet because they wouldn’t part with both Jasson Dominguez and George Lombard Jr. The Mets also failed to land Crochet because they wouldn’t surrender the tandem of Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams.”
