I mean, look at this dude.  Just a pure American athlete whose mix of elite plate discipline and bat to ball skills make him a legit unicorn.  If he can replicate that +.400 OBP in the majors, it would put him in a small of group mega-stars of just Aaron Judge & Juan Soto.  And while he doesn’t have the power that those two do, he makes up for it with heart and drive that few others actually possess.

current

What's funny is I do think the most undervalued ability by scouts and analysts alike - the ability where we've seen superstars come from borderline prospects - is bat to ball skills BUT only if they can grow into a little more power/authority. Jose Ramirez the easiest example. Mookie, Altuve and Pedroia another example although Mookie younger. A lot of time spent off top 100 lists despite good production. Kwan is kind of doing it right now with very little power.

This NY Post article is a nightmare on mobile so click at your own peril, but per Heyman:

“The Yankees failed to land star left-hander Garrett Crochet because they wouldn’t part with both Jasson Dominguez and George Lombard Jr. The Mets also failed to land Crochet because they wouldn’t surrender the tandem of Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams.”

Coulda had two George’s. Damn

Tight walk though, need strong defense to make it play too, and can’t have terrible splits.

Jose just changed his approach and unlocked it, this guy not sure how much more strength he can pack on before he loses speed and becomes unplayable at 2B.

Interesting player tho

Glad the Mets one didn't work out. Need as many position players as possible.

I don’t know why Braden Montgomery is in Secaucus, NJ, but he’ll be on MLB Network in a little while. I’m sure it’ll be on the Sox site later.

I didn’t even know mlb network still existed

The Orioles wouldn't give up Mayo and Bradfield and the Phillies wanted to wait on Burnes.  The Red Sox stepped up though it's a little frustrating having to trade for Teel when he should have already been in the system.  It's a really good deal by Getz and I hope there's a couple more on the way.

Good for Chris sticking to his guns this winter.  Hopefully he has learned something in the last year and a half.

I think its crazy the Mets sign a player for $700+ million dollars but balk at trading away two prospects. Crazy.

The Red Sox jumped on Teel at #14 right before the White Sox picked Jacob Gonzalez at #15.  I remember hearing that the White Sox would have taken Teel instead of Gonzalez but what am I missing?  They were beaten out by one spot.

Robert and who?  Not sure we have any other tradable assets.

Hoping they sign Quintana on a 2 year deal. Possibly another OFer if Robert/Benintendi does go. Seem to be set for what you want to see in the infield. Do need a veteran catcher since I assume neither prospects start with the team.  And then probably some random bullpen stuff to see what materializes out of them.

Jonathan Cannon is probably marketable, right now. A team like the Mets gave 30 starts to some rickety dudes last season, and now they're down 3 starters.

Cannon will be starting game 2 of the 2028 World Series for the Chicago White Sox.

Certainly. The reason they're undervalued is because the skill set produces a lot of situations where the set doesn't play up at all.

That said, it's a good skill to gamble on for the same reason.

I feel like his value will go up quite a bit with a strong 2024.  He’s certainly a SP I’d consider moving at some point if it allows us to add to our positional core, but I think that’s a probably year out.
