ah ok, yes this must have been for like 2 months because the 2018 mlb pipeline list only showed 6 following graduations that 2017 season from Giolito, Lopez, and Moncada.

The consensus seems to be that the return for this Crochet trade is positive.  That was definitely not the consensus belief for the Cease trade.

Just wondering how you came up with the consenus on the Cease trade. Do you have a list of people who graded it ?

From reading the feedback from the majority of posters here.  Go back to the initial trade thread.  The majority was not thrilled with the return.  And if you are asking if I did a scientific poll, no I did not.  Just like I don’t need to come up with a list of people who liked the Fletcher or Vargas trades.  The majority was expecting a greater return.

My guess is that the third and fourth prospects in that Phillies offer were a far drop off from Meidroth and Gonzalez.  Interesting though if true.

I would prefer those Phillies as top 2 guys,  but that offer was from last summer.

We'll never know but this seems better than that might have been expected at the trade deadline. 

Oh it's easily better than anything they would have got at the TDL.

A lot of people were pissed at Crochet around here for saying he'd need an extension to pitch in the post season  and that he wanted to stick to his SP routine. Thought teams would hold a grudge because he was acting like a Prima Donna. He was just being a smart businessman looking out for his health and career.

AJ Pierzynski called Crochet the biggest loser of the trade deadline because he had to remain on the Sox and not on a contender.

When Crochet struggled in August plenty also wanted him shut down. If that had happened despite not being hurt it's bad optics .

Basically it all worked out for the best even if Getz felt blindsided at the TDL.

By continuing to pitch and finishing strong he increased his value. Pitching 146 innings after pitching only 12.2 in 2023 and none in 2022 screamed healthy arm .

In this very page, @Sleepy Harold just posted an Athletic article from a few hours ago that states that the Phillies offered the White Sox SS Aidan Miller, CF Justin Crawford, and lower-level prospects for Crochet at last year’s trade deadline.  That seems to be fairly comparable to what the Red Sox gave up today, even if the additional pieces were “lower-level”.

Really it comes down to the recovery of Montgomery vs the 3rd and 4th prospects in the Phil's deal.  I am not a big Crawford fan, so I think I prefer this deal

Yeah, but like @Bob Sacamano said, that didn’t happen.  Is it possible that this is the first big trade that the majority of posters think Getz won right from the beginning / on paper?

That’s literally not what @Bob Sacamano said. He said nobody is disappointed with the return, which is true. I haven’t seen anybody who is really disappointed with the return. 

The original post in question said there might be people who are disappointed that this trade is actually good. Those people don’t think the trade is bad. They are disappointed that the trade is good.

I’m not saying they exist either. I simply pointed out that @Bob Sacamano misread the original post he quoted.

Chase Meidroth is going to be a fan favorite on the South Side.  Just such a weird, unique player.  I can’t honestly come up with one comp for him.  But if he can get on base at an elite clip, he’s 100% an everyday guy you can slot at the top of your lineup and just create nightmares for the opposing team.  He doesn’t have a ton of raw power, but I do like his compact swing and I can see him impacting the ball just enough to be an everyday 2B.  I don’t even want to highlight his Steamer 600 projection because it’s pretty insane.
