2026 will be your first taste of what can be possible with all of these changes (both players and coaching/development), and 2027 is when you'd hope you start to actually feel good about the team out there and what they are capable of.

And that is why sports frankly are no fun anymore. It's 2024 with the 2025 season coming up. Lot of wasted summer afternoons ahead. I heard all this down the road stuff during our first failed rebuild.

I agree with you that it is a shame but yet again what is it EXACTLY you want the Sox to do given current ownership and their ways which aren't changing a bit?

Spend money, sign big name free agents, bring in experienced support staff, dive into analytics...all of these things are great...until you realize JR simply...won't...do...a...damn...thing.

All you can do is tread water and hope for the best until new ownership arrives.

When I spoke to the longtime member of the front office after the Crochet trade, we talked about a lot of things but a sentence he said really struck with me, (direct quote) "All JR wants to do is leave as much money possible for his family and his grand children..."

There you go.

I was just throwing names against the wall in suggesting a trade of Cannon. But If Cannon, Thorpe, Martin and Burke click, now you're starting to get a glut of pitching. That's the situation the Mariners find themselves in. The market for pitching is crazy, so they might deal from their surplus to restock the minors.

But in that case, you trade the oldest guy in Martin.  Keep the young guys.  Ideally, the entire future group become studs but inevitably some will get injured or struggle and be moved to the bullpen.  Nothing wrong with a glut of pitching.  They should keep drafting it, but in later rounds.  This will allow them to use their higher picks on their true problem area over the years — position players.

Schultz

Smith

Thorpe

Taylor

Cannon

Burke

Iriarte (too early to say but perhaps bullpen due to control?)

Gonzalez (too early to say but perhaps bullpen due to control?)

Without even focusing on the guy or guys that I think are overrated…what are the odds that all 4 of those guys stay healthy for a full year? This can be said about literally any set of 4 pitchers in the big leagues.

Solid return for Crochet! Love the offseason so far. Revamping the analytics, international, and development departments! Long overdue!!! Love bringing other voices from other organizations. Love hearing that Aiden Miller was part of trade with Phillies and wanting more than what was being offered with Crawford and other pieces. Let’s hopefully sign a couple free agents with 1-2 year deals we can flip. Wait and trade Robert until someone steps up which I believe will happen. Crossing my fingers that Jerry passes away before the season opener!

Braden is a tall player so he is not going to have the athleticism in terms of quick first step/flexibility/diving for balls that a lot of compact outfielders have. IMO, I  hope he doesn't dive/twist/contort himself or reach over the wall to grab a fly ball. Stay healthy and focus on offense. Having said that, Braden has a cannon for an arm and there are a couple of You Tube videos showing him gunning down runners at the plate. This guy is the RF prospect we have all been waiting years to see on the South side.

Tatis, Elly de la Cruz, Ohtani, Rodriguez and ONeil Cruz are all taller, dynamic fast-twitch athletes.

But they are pretty much unicorns.

If Jerry did pass away, his sons are suddenly going to authorize big FA contracts or extensions?

More than likely...it would start a period where the team was up for sale and the stadium situation remained in limbo.

That said, it couldn't possibly be worse than the present predicament.

I’ve always liked this guy and will continue to root for him… even when he plays against us.

Once this team shows they’re worthy of being pulled for, I’ll change this stance.

We’re all cursed with White Sox Blood.

Imagine...just imagine...the Sox are in contention come July because all the players are playing so hard trying to get traded to other teams. Like, hovering around 500. That would be hilarious. Obviously it won't happen but...fun to ponder.

Stranger things have happened. 😆

Watching a rebuild is fun to me. It's the reason I won't watch the Bulls anymore, the treadmill is not a fun place to be. I'm excited to watch the Sox next season if it's just a bunch of 24-year-olds trying to make it in the league and maybe break out. Some guy last spring training, maybe Soroka or Shewmake or some new(bad) addition, said the team was going to impress because it's a bunch of 28-year-olds fighting for their careers. I don't think anybody bought that, but I might buy it when they're rookies and second year players. There's some potential for fun or a surprise when there's players who could break out. In other words, I'd much rather watch Brooks Baldwin play second base than Nicky Lopez, rather watch Ramos than Moncada, Vargas than Eloy, etc. even if it means another 100 loss season.

Sports is still fun. Maybe watching it on TV gets old after 70 years or whatever the average age of this board is. Or posting about it on the internet since the day of newsgroups. But its a timeless thing that has been fun and socially relevant since, I dunno, they started recording history.

The odds of that are barely above 0.

I tend to enjoy a rebuild also

Says the ankle feels great. Was in batting cage when he heard he was traded. Videos plus article summary.

Thanks for sharing.  He’s a man now but he barely looks older than my 16 year old son.  🤣

Dude needs to lift a bit.  Build up those biceps.  💪

This city will love him. Like Kris Bryant but better and for longer.

Kris Bryant was a ROY, MVP and 4-time All-Star.

Dude was on a Hall of Fame track until he landed in Colorado. Let's pump the brakes on calling Braden better — and for longer — until he's got some MLB hardware.

Yeah, thanks for beating me to it.  Nice to be enthusiastic but I think people need to realize that Bryant should have been drafted 1-1 and was on a HoF track.  He declined pretty severely after his first season with the Rockies.  Chronic back issues have fucked over his career just like Joe Crede.

Good insight Lip. I guess all that's left for me to do is give up and divorce myself completely from the team and the entire sport. Haven't quite been able to pull the trigger on that yet as I was a lifelong Sox fan and it's difficult to forget the days of Ozzie, Ventura, AJP, Frank, Dye, Buehrle, Paulie, Jenks, Zisk, Gamble et all. I won't say what I would have done cause it gets people mad on here. Suffice it to say I never would have traded Sale.

Bless you for your optimism and enthusiasm. For me losing 120 games is not fun. It's horrific. Trades for players not yet ready for the big leagues for me is annoying. You love it, which is fine. I just think the more the Sox lose the worse it is for the already small fanbase.
