Tucker to Cubs

Cubs did need a superstar to break out of their mediocrity. Right now, Tucker>>>Bellinger. Also, happy to see the Astros take a step back. Trading for Paredes might mean they are out on Bregman.

This is definitely a "We're out on Bregman" move.

What’s going on with Paredes, 3 teams in less than a year.

Thinking about it - in terms of "happy to see the Astros take a step back", the Astros have been so good at player development that I wonder if we will be happy about this in 2 years.

I think Cubs just sold Morel when they could and then realized Paredes profile' doesn't fit at Wrigley as a RHH pull hitter. Dude might mash again with that short left field in Houston though.

Long route and 6 prospects later for the Cubs to get Tucker. If they don’t extend him it will look pretty ugly down the line

So effectively it is Morel, Bigge, Johnson, Wesneski, and Smith for one year of Tucker? Seems like a lot.

Astros losing both Bregman and Tucker would make me so happy.

That’s a lot for a one year rental. Does this help Robert’s trade value?

Robert isn't half the player Tucker is by numbers

Robert is hype and Tucker is substance

Absolutely. The only thing Robert has proven is that he's injury prone. I don't think teams will meet the asking price, and Getz might be better off taking his chances on Robert having a great 1st half and trading him at the deadline.

Don’t think that’s totally fair. He’s proven to be an elite defender and that he can hit for power. Tucker is a better player to be sure, but I don’t think it’s so far off, especially considering their respective contract situations.
However, I can't imagine Robert would net a return like this at the moment, better keep him for now.

Hopefully he won’t sign an extension, but I actually think he will.  Bellinger to Yankees is next.  Cubs are a real threat to get Roki according to a person with info.

One year away from free agency, would Tucker bet on himself to cash in next year?

Any extension done now would have to be at current market rates would have to imagine

Luis Robert put up a 5.0 WAR in 2023. Last year he was hurt again, and the team beyond dreadful. People act like he's never been good.

Does this give us any more insight on a potential Robert return?

I don’t think they’re very comparable in terms of both player quality and contract status, so I’d say it doesn’t tell much

Tucker was at 4.7 in only 78 games last year after three straight years at 5.5. Robert has that upside but has been nowhere near that come on now

I'd say a team's #1 draft pick from this past year and a 3B for the next 3 years for a rental is pretty good.

Edit: plus another prospect or SP they can plug into their rotation (with some control) right away

Edit 2: God damn, guy put a 4.7 WAR season only playing 78 games.

That's why the Cubs won't be able to extend him. Hell get a HUGE contract next year. He might easily clear $350M.

If I was a team potentially wanting Robert I'd be looking at him holistically. 1 great season. The rest, eh. And mostly due to injury. Moncada, while obviously a completely different player, also had one great season. The rest, eh, filled with injuries. No one's chomping at the bit for him in free agency. I hope Robert proves me wrong but history tells me he's likely missing at least 50-60 games and when he's playing he can't play up to his abilities because of a nagging injury affecting him. That's probably what most gm's are thinking.

Before he fouled a ball off his shin this year, Tucker was otherworldly, he was on a path to the AL MVP award with a shot at 50+ home runs. If you see that player again next year, I could seem him maybe even pushing close to $500 million.

I have no concept of what it would take for the Cubs to extend him right now.

I’m not so sure. Maybe. But am I wrong that the cubs gave up more for 1 year of Tucker than the Yankees did for 1 year of Soto? I don’t remember what they traded.
