Maybe a 10-15% Cubs' premium. Owned $52 million in salary for age 34-35-36 seasons plus another $46 million in deferred money from 2025-2041. Who would pay Arenado $98 million for three years on the open market? https://www.fangraphs.com/players/nolan-arenado/9777/stats?position=3B 7.2 fWAR his last great season in 2022...now essentially a 3 fWAR player going forward, until he really craters at some point. caulfield12
"The Cubs traded for Tucker with full awareness that he might leave in 12 months and sign elsewhere. There is no guarantee that he will stay in Chicago or even that they will have an advantage in free-agent negotiations. In the case of the Yankees, they at least still have a top-five player in Aaron Judge following Soto’s departure, but the Cubs won’t likely have that type of security. The trio of players the Cubs gave up represent a steep price for a one-year rental. But it’s understandable that the price was so high. Tucker is the type of player who can take a team over the top as a contender or — perhaps more aptly in Chicago’s case — take a borderline playoff team and push it into October. With Soto signed, Tucker was the only player available with that kind of ability. But the Cubs need to be certain they have the rest of the pieces in place before Opening Day. Because they’ll likely get only one chance with Tucker on their roster." "The deal instantly makes Tucker the best player in Chicago..." Haha. https://sports.yahoo.com/with-addition-of-kyle-tucker-chicago-cubs-are-instantly-better--but-for-just-one-year-225812420.html Edited December 14 by caulfield12

Lip Man 1
15 hours ago, oldsox said: Arenado fits in there. From MLB.com today: Dec. 14: Astros are 'serious suitor' for 3B Arenado (report) The Astros have emerged as a "serious suitor" to acquire Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, according to a report by The Athletic's Chandler Rome (subscription required). Rome writes that no deal is imminent, but talks between the two clubs have picked up since this week's Winter Meetings. Arenado has a full no-trade clause, and it's unclear if he would waive it to go to Houston, per Rome. The Astros aren't on Arenado's wish list of six clubs that he'd be willing to accept a trade to. A source told MLB.com's John Denton that list includes the Dodgers, Padres, Angels, Phillies, Mets and Red Sox. Arenado, 33, is owed $74 million across the next three seasons. The Astros acquired third baseman Isaac Paredes as part of a package that sent outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Cubs on Friday. However, Houston has a need at both corner-infield positions, and trading for Arenado, a 10-time Gold Glover, would ostensibly lead to Paredes moving to first base, a position at which he’s appeared in 71 games in the big leagues. An Arenado trade would seemingly close the door on a potential reunion between the Astros and free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman. If there is no path back to Houston for Bregman, the Yankees and Red Sox are two clubs that are among the best fits for him, MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi said Friday. Timmy U
Imagine losing Bregman and Tucker and then replacing them with what's left of Arenado. Houston's farm is pretty barren too. Cam Smith is instantly their best prospect by far. They really have to go for it this year. The window is closing rapidly.

Weird, cuz Elias already spent almost $60 million on two bats that weren’t exactly a necessity, when starting pitching is for the Orioles. $60 million isn’t going to get an ace but it could have already bought a decent starter.
