Schriffen does it again...

Seems the White Sox lead TV announcer can't help but screw up other sports too:

I was thinking about Schriffen last night. He's not very good. I didn't even care about all the times he put his foot in his mouth. Actually I thought it was a little endearing. LA PANTERA (cat sounds) is objectively funny...like why would anyone say that? it's absurd. very amusing. Everybody seems to hate him which makes me like him a little bit. It's the Carlos Boozer effect.

However, his issue to me is how seemingly proud he is about his complete lack of knowledge and his reluctance to learn anything about the sport he has a full-time job talking about. I'm reading very much into some statement he made in a Guardians game, he was talking about Kyle Manzardo and got the scouting report completely wrong, then later in the game, when talking about Sox prospects, he said something like, "oh yeah these nerds know so much about the minor leagues. I wish I had time to learn about all that." Dawg, I feel like it's 50% of your job to know that stuff. You have to talk about baseball for like 500 hours a year, you should figure out some stuff to talk about. Maybe talk about the baseball players, maybe pony up for a Baseball America subscription.

that Bill VEEEK remark too. Buddy, if you did a modicum of preparation for this great job you have, people would not make fun of you so relentlessly. I'm also convinced he got drunk during that 9th inning rain delay in St Louis.

You would have thunk after the first time someone would have corrected him. Maybe these espn+ broadcasts don’t have a normal crew. For a guy the White Sox think is.a star, espn isn’t exactly giving him primo gigs. I still maintain , before the Sox hired him, he couldn’t name 3 players on the team.

Did he do a "Bill Veeek" on TV?  I remember 10 or 15 years ago a foxy lady announcer named Alonna something, who used to work for MLBN as well as gigs with Rockies and Angels, said that on National TV.  She was giving a history lesson on the Wrigley Field ivy, saying that it was planted by Bill Veeek. What a dope.  Both of them.

Yes, he did it on one of the broadcasts. Seems like a nice guy, but he’s as minor league as the roster.

The White Sox made two blunders regarding the broadcast booth. The first was obvious: Hiring Schriffen. The second was keeping fan-hating Steve Stone for another year. It doesn't get any worse than this.

According to Steve Stone, any team that consistently is bad, the blame is ultimately ownership. Except the White Sox, 

He was always a good analyst, although a bit too full of himself. I remember at a Soxfest he wouldn’t sign a ball on the sweet spot saying the guy asking for his autograph was trying to make money. I had no idea you get rich selling Steve Sone signed on the sweet spot baseballs. But now he’s just a schilling for JR.

I remember being at a Soxfest and I had a ball with multiple signatures on it. I gave it to one player and he kinda rolled the ball around in his hand looking for a place to sign. I mentioned that spot was still open and he said that was saved for the manger. I had never heard that before. 

I also don't remember which player it was that said that.

Wow.  I knew he had an ego but that’s just embarrassing.  And yes, he has learned to be a good company man and not question the team that pays him ever since he called out some Cubs players back 20 years ago.

As an alum of a college that always has their basketball games on ESPN+ I can confirm that the broadcasts are usually pretty rough.

The same ESPN that had the Arizona logo for Arizona State.  Media in general not only seem to not care about production but can't hire folks to get the simplest of things correct or hire an editor to correct them.  You'd think these things would be easier to catch.

A lot of times these guys get hired because they have a good voice and some knowledge or multiple sports and look pleasant enough on camera.

These tweeters are morons. There's no one who knows the history of every teams great players. Robertsons been dead a while .He played long ago.of course Schriffen prepared so he learned about Robertson on short notice most likely. The trouble is even without weed or advanced age your mind doesn't always remember correctly and that's not good for an announcer. Sucks he said it wrong and had people screaming it's Robertson not Robinson you douchebag. He should have someone in his ear telling him he made a mistake after the 1st time but chances are the producers or someone back in the studio doesn't even know it's Robertson.
