I'd suggest there is a real difference between calling the G-League, Slam-Ball and UFC compared to calling MLB, NFL, major college football and basketball games. The fact that Jason has been given those opportunities says something about what those in charge think of his abilities.
Lip Man 1
From Paul Sullivan's sports year wrap up column on Sunday: Top 5 Schriff-isms The most memorable calls of first-year Sox broadcaster John Schriffen: “For all the haters …” “South Side, stand up!” “Radio losers” “We ain’t takin’ that.” “I need this win.”

When you have a 42-win team, cmon, as much as you want to get excited, the team has prevented that. Any attempt at being 'overly' positive is ridiculous. You have to treat each game as its own but the big picture of team suckiness can never be ignored. South Side Stand Up is so bad. The haters and losers thing is counterproductive. And the final two are not worth commenting on they are so bad.

The Sox were already terrible and Schriffen was trying to hype up a brawl with the Brewers. Awful.

While the comments against him by others in the Chicago media may have been unfair (personally I don't think so) there is no way you win in that situation by responding publicly, and making it worse was that it was on the broadcast itself as opposed to say on social media. It was unprofessional and childish and that comes from someone who has been in broadcasting since 1978.

Not to mention he thought Pham was his "bro" but in the end Tommy made fun of him upon leaving for always hanging around the players/clubhouse. 1

What a dummy. You always got the feeling Hawk/Stoney while making regular contact with players didn't try to bond with the boys in the locker room. Even though he's young, Schiff is not prime 'become one of us' material with the players. Leave 'em alone; ask 'em something while flying by once in a while. Do an interview when u are supposed to. Nothing beats when Hawk left the booth to check on Todd Frazier… 🤣 Edited December 30, 2024 by WhiteSox2023

Plus Harrelson obviously golfed a lot with the players during the course of the season as well. There's a lot of camaraderie we don't ever see that takes place on the course.
