He's telling people he doesn't use Twitter. He was talking earlier on how he didn't use Twitter. It was a reference to that. It's really not that serious or something to be upset about but it's what you get with an out of context clip here.

Schriffen is awesome. We will never have another Hawk but I hope Schriffen can get close. People largely just don't like that the team is bad and are taking it out on him. Is what it is. His style certainly works better with an actual functual, winning ball club. The White Sox are just b**** eating crackers right now.

Love Schriffen. He's got more memorable calls in the worst year ever than Benetti did in 8 years here. The only position the sox were able to upgrade.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Yes, I'm sure John Schriffen is going after Chris Rongey and Connor McKnight, as if he knows who those people are. It was clearly targeted elsewhere.

We get it, you really like John Schriffen

Kinda agree with Buehrle>Wood here.. It makes more sense that he meant he wouldn't be using twitter as a source for pitching info.

Ive heard this idiot for a little over a season now, he's not getting his pitching analytics from anywhere so I doubt he meant pitchingninja isn't good and he prefers a different source.

Granted I follow the White Sox closer than anyone,  but it feels like they revel in their ignorance while other organizations look for things like this as an edge.  We are trying to recreate the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers,  meanwhile the 2025 Dodgers version runs laps around us as one of our guys reads pitching for dummies.

I do. Doesnt account for media illiteracy on display here though.

For the record, I think he should be using Twitter with the full resources available there. But this wasn't some random jab at pitching ninja. It was a follow-up to a conversation from earlier. Not sure why people didn't grasp that.

Perhaps because he was specifically referring to pitching ninja rather than Twitter itself

It was obvious he was dismissing the account by his tone. People can try and excuse it any way they want but he has once again stepped in dog crap that any half decent broadcaster would avoid.

Is it unreasonable for fans to expect that the literal media face of the franchise to understand how media can take quotes out of context?

Everyone must be Schriffening. No?

Exactly, and it doesn’t really matter what Schriffen intended.  Friedman, Bannister, and Sox fans watching the game all interpreted it as if he was bashing PitchingNinja by the way he said it, along with his tone.  He even laughed when he said it.

Schriffen has already proven he known very little about baseball, Im not sure how anyone here really thought he was trashing pitching ninja and saying he will get his analytics from a different source. If you listen to it again, Brooke mentions baseball twitter before mentioning pitching ninja which is what queued Schriffen to say he's not using that source, source as in twitter.

He's an idiot, no argument from me on that.

Schriffen's job is calling baseball games, yet he shuns one of the best and most knoweldgeable sources of pitching info publically available. It speaks to a lack of intellectual curiosity IMO. On top of being bad at his job, he acts like he's better for remaining ignorant. It's a bad combo. The more he opens his mouth (and puts his foot in it), he proves he's just a meathead who wants to appeal to other meatheads. It works for Slamball or other hype-based broadcasts, but not for baseball.

A healthy org would have quietly let him go after last season, yet here we are discussing yet another on-air f*** up that reflects the incompetence of the org as a whole. Maybe someday the White Sox won't be a source of daily embarrassment, but that day is not today.

He probably doesn't know who pitching ninja is and is such a weirdo and thin skinned that his impulse is to trash anyone he associates with "twitter" because he read negative comments about himself.

He's literally the exact opposite of Benetti.  I remember during the LAA series that Bill Walton did, one of Jason's other guest partners was the tv writer, Michael Schur (who was also from the old Fire Joe Morgan blog).  For about an inning or so, those two guys were like trying to guess exit velocities and launch angles.  It was great.  Two baseball nerds watching the game and goofing around.  That's what I want in my announcer.  Not some unknowledgeable insecure combative guy who tries to start fights with radio hosts and twitter accounts or tries to appeal to people he assumes are meatball south siders ("Ah, hell naw, we aint taking that!").

He has made me yearn for Connor McKnight, which is shocking.

Hey look I was right yet again.

I will take my apology from you guys here just like Rob did from John. Thanks in advance.

The quote and being a big fan don't add up. Schriffen obviously felt or was told to apologize, so Soxtalk wasn't the only source thinking he  messed up  The guy is minor league.
