What a silly trade for a massive market team. You get junk, just to shed a contract (that's not terrible), even though youre 'going for it' this year.

Agreed. I feel like there was room at 1B with him Busch at DH. But then you'd have to move either Happ or Suzuki, who I think both have full no-trade clauses.

They haven't spent any actual money yet and haven't been in on any of these big guys the last few years. But sure man, defend them if you want.

The Cubs also haven’t been the laughingstock of baseball the past two seasons and didn’t set the modern era loss record.  They have won 83 games in back-to-back seasons.  Not good enough but not historically awful either.  The Cubs had the ninth highest opening day payroll in the MLB last year and just acquired a “big guy”.  Now they get to see if they can re-sign him.  But have the Sox ever even acquired their version of Kyle Tucker?  I’m not defending them, as I am not a Cubs fan, but the truth is that the Cubs are in a far better place than the Sox are.

The Cubs should be in a far better place than the Cubs are. That's what I'm saying. For what their resources are in the division they play in, they are clowns too.

But we just acquired a top 8 bat in all of baseball with Meidroth.

@Chicago White Sox

Kiley McDaniel did say Meidroth has a 70 grade hit tool / 70 grade plate discipline and that sometimes guys like that turn into surprise superstars.  I personally think he will be a poor man’s Jose Ramirez if he can fatten up a bit and add some power.

Is Busch a 1B/DH only nowadays? I was assuming the Cubs would try to get away with him at 2B with Bellinger at 1B.
No idea how the D would work out, but would for sure have given them 1 hell of a lineup

Agreed and from memory, he’s below average at 3B and has seen a little 2B. Not sure he’s really an option. Would also free them up to use Nico as a trade piece.

Cubs fans should be pissed that with all of the financial advantages they have over all of the small market teams in their division they are choosing to be cheap af.  Keep Bellinger AND pay for pitching.   The Cubs are an ATM that prints money.  I wouldn't have thought the Ricketts would be so cheap, but here we are.

He kinda sucks at hitting and doesn't really fit anywhere except center field. A good team probably wants a better-hitting first baseman and they have PCA to play center. Perfect fit on the Yankees, I love this for them, they look to be a better team despite losing Soto.

Think the Cubs definitely could've gotten more than a reliever/salary dump though. I'd be more upset about not retaining a lot more of his salary (they gave Yankees $5m) to get back an actually good player. Maybe they spend it on a player. Unlikely. Why am I getting the feeling that Yoan Moncada will be their starting third baseman?

To put it into perspective, Busch was bad enough at 2b that the Dodgers tried Vargas there.
