They must be trading Korey Lee, although he is one of the few players on the roster coming to Soxfest.

I expect it’ll be a tandem to start the year until one of the prospects forces the issue. Thaiss isn’t going to block anyone I don’t imagine.

I would think one of the 2 top 100 prospects makes the roster.

Yeah I think so too. Both made it to AAA and you want both to be getting regular time behind the plate.  Tough to do when they’re both there. Unless you are literally alternating between C/DH every day.

Quero has barely played in AAA and Teel has only played 28 games in AAA and was in rookie ball in 2023, so I hope not. Zero reason to rush these guys for the opening day roster.

+100. Zero reason for either of them to be on the team until mid May at the earliest.

This is why it was kind of weird that the Sox were so insistent on keeping Chuckie Robinson on the roster all last year.  It really isn’t that difficult to obtain a no bat backup catcher.

He’s got a 93 wRC+ against RHP the last three seasons, which is pretty good for a catcher making just above league minimum.  No idea how his defense is or if he’s good working with pitchers.  My guess is those traits must not be good based on his salary and this trade.

I'm guessing the AAA pitchers liked working with him, and they realized they were cutting Maldonado and promoting some of those pitchers. He's a guy. I can certainly see keeping the status quo and letting people work with familiar catchers in a lost season.

I forget who they dumped to keep Chuckie, but I remember being moderately annoyed.
