Wtf?! Why the hell are they trading Fajardo for a 32 year old DFA guy?! I hate this!

I don't really know that he's a DFA guy. He wasn't DFA to my knowledge, and probably has some value coming off a really solid season due to all the cheap control even at his age.

Certainly fair to question why you'd trade an 18 year old pitcher with solid DSL results for a low upside reliever in the Sox current circumstances.

I think he meant he’s likely a guy who’s low on the bullpen totem pole that could be a DFA guy at some point.

Booser throws 96. Maybe they see closer upside. Or at least lefty setup upside. If he's that, they can trade him for two Fajardos in July.

"Fajardo, 18, made his professional debut in 2024, posting a 3.91 ERA (22 ER/50.2 IP) in 13 starts for the Dominican Summer League White Sox. The right-hander struck out 64 batters while issuing only eight walks and allowing only two home runs. Born in Venezuela, Fajardo signed with the White Sox as an international free agent in February 2024."

Shouldn't a conpletely rebuilding team be making the exact opposite move...trading any vets for youth?

That's what we heard about Leasure...closer upside the Dodgers didn't notice.

96 Is just a pedestrian FB these days from a reliever.

Will this guy be part of their next playoff team?

We traded Burger when he was "too old" at 26/27 but now our niche is suddenly thirty something veteran relievers?

Almost Feels like Fajardo is now guaranteed to one day break out with the Red Sox, just like Romy Gonzalez last year...

Looks like they simply had to open up a spot for Patrick Sandoval on the 40 man...who won't even pitch until the second half.

Chicago White Sox - RHP Yhoiker Fajardo
Fajardo has been a standout 17-year-old arm in the DSL this season. He throws primarily a two-pitch fastball/slider combination. The fastball has touched the mid-90s and the slider sits more in the low-80s with late bite. It’s a raw profile, but Fajardo already touches the mid-90s and should be able to add a tick or two more to that as he fills out his 6-3 frame. The two-pitch mix has generated a ton of strikeouts in the DSL this season. Across 50.2 innings of work, Fajardo struck out 64 batters. He pitched to a 2.50 FIP and walked just eight batters in the process. He commands the strike zone well with an easily repeatable delivery but will have to round out the pitch mix to find more success stateside. He allowed a .256 BAA and will have to improve that in the Complex League once he makes his way there.

The Sox absolutely think they’ll get more than Fajardo for Booser. He’s 32 but he’s not even arb eligible and has 5 years of control and three options. I get it.

At 17-18 years old...not 32.  Also REALLY good control for a LA pitcher at that age.

Unless they're going for "The Rookie II" Disney-like feel good story.

I think he means the Sox think they'll be able to trade Booser at a later date for something better than Fajardo.

I'm not understanding. Are you saying that no pitcher who has been described as having closer or setup upside has ever been successful? Or are you using one single example to say that the White Sox should never make trades to upgrade their bullpen? Neither make much sense.

Yes, he will be part of the next playoff team. And if not, players we get in trade for him will.

I never heard anybody say that Burger was "too old", and that's why he was traded. I heard that KW hated Hostetler and he hated the Burger pick.

If you're using Romy Gonzalez as a comparison, then I guess you're saying that one day, Fajardo will have a good season as a bullpen arm when a manager figures out how to use him in ways that he doesn't get exposed, and clobbered.

If anything, my guess is they believe they can get a prospect closer to the majors than a 17 year old, that is the logic. They must see something in him, think they can get more out of him than others. That obviously remains to be seen and the Sox, at this point, should not be trusted or given the benefit of the doubt in really any situation…but there is logic to the deal. This guy has 15-20 solid innings, gets flipped for a AA player in July.

Plus you can't overlook what he did when he came up.

The BP sucked like really sucked. If you think having a worse record than 2024 is possible maybe improve the bullpen ,get a hold of some decent arms and have some competition for some spots with guys who can throw strikes.
