Damn apparently Cleveland is that hard up for cash that they’re trading Naylor for a draft pick?

Also, how the hell did the Yankees not beat this offer instead of signing 37 year old Goldschmidt?

I think all of these RSN going under is going to change the face of baseball and will lead to a long lockout in 2026.

Thank god that big bastard is out of the division.  He was on a Mike Sweeney level all time Sox killer trajectory.

Let’s hope his brothers don’t carry the torch

But they really only saved $2 million for next season’s payroll, as they just signed Carlos Santana for $12 million.

I know. That's really shows something. It doesn't look like it was for talent. Looks like they are trying to save everything they can.

How long was Naylor under Cleveland control?

But then turning around and signing Santana at his age is puzzling at best.  At some point he will fall off a cliff like Abreu did.

Should be a free agent next offseason

The Athletic earlier this week had a story asking the same question although the way they phrased it, it would be because the owners yet again would be willing to shut down a season to try to get a salary cap instituted.

Good luck with that folks!

The good news will be that unlike in 1981 and 1994 it won't hurt good Sox teams or blunt positive momentum because the team will be awful again that year.

I'm at the point that if baseball goes away for 2 seasons , I'm completely fine with that.

They need a cap, and as important,  they need a floor.

Slade Cecconi is totally going to become another strong reliever for them isn’t he

I bet they try him as a starter, right? He has the pitch mix and it's his fastball that got touched up (though sits at 95mph) despite being projected as someone who "needs to work on his offspeed to be a starter". The offspeed stuff is OK. He hasn't looked very good in the majors and had more success as a reliever at AAA. But Cleveland is a competent organization so I imagine it's a little more than a salary dump and I think he gets some starts or otherwise acts as a swingman.

I potentially like the trade for CLE more than for AZ. AZ is replacing Walker with Naylor which seems like a downgrade or at least a lateral move. They could've paid Walker $6m more AAV than Naylor and kept him. I liked the Gimenez trade too, Cleveland trades their guys at the right time, I don't think Naylor or Gimenez are going to play better baseball than they have going forward. Naylor kills the Sox, but he kinda sucks, his 162 game average WAR is 1.6. Eerily close batting numbers as Andrew Vaughn at more than twice the price.
