I was thinking about what a trade for Rice would look like.  He's in almost the identical situation that Michael Busch was in last off season.  The Cubs gave up 2 high upside 19 year olds to acquire Busch.  LHP Jackson Farris and OF Zyhir Hope.  Using that as a template I'd think the Sox would have to give up something like LHP Blake Larson and INF Jeral Perez.  I'd make that deal in a second.  Rice has a chance to be a high impact middle of the order run producer from the left side which is something this team desperately needs.

Adding to this.  The Sox tried very hard to trade for Busch last off season. He was part of the ask in a Cease trade and they tried to trade for him again but didn't have the prospects to match the Cubs offer.  They obviously know they have a need for this type of player and they have the prospects now for Rice.  Rice may not have the immediate impact Busch had but he can certainly grow into a legitimate middle of the order power bat.

How much value can Rice have?  Good minor league numbers, but struggled in his first taste of the majors and turning 26 in a month.  I believe he was ranked as high as 12th in the Yankees system last summer.

But Michael Busch was a top 5 prospect in the Dodgers farm system and also a top 100 prospect in the MLB for several years.

Rice shouldn’t have the same price as Busch did.  I wouldn’t expect the Sox to have to give up much for a guy like Rice.  If they give up a similar return as the Cubs did for Busch, that would be a disappointing trade.

I wouldn’t complain if they traded for Rice, but they might as well give Elko a chance too since he’s already in the organization.

Is Ben Rice that close to what Busch was though?
