Teoscar Hernandez signs with the Dodgers

The outfielder and 2024 World Series champion agreed to a three-year, $66 million deal with Los Angeles on Friday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal reportedly includes a fourth-year team option for $15 million, a $23 million signing bonus and, as is common for the Dodgers now, around $23 million in deferred money.

Question to answer in 2025: Can anyone knock the Dodgers juggernaut off its perch?

Plain and simple, the Dodgers are acting like bullies, which gives them a strong chance to become the first MLB team in the 21st century to win back-to-back titles. That, far and away, is the biggest storyline heading into 2025. Can anybody knock this juggernaut off its perch? Shohei Ohtani will be back on the mound. Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman should be healthier than they were in ‘24. And there’s no way the Dodgers will suffer as devastating a barrage of starting pitcher injuries as they did this past season.

The MLB playoffs remain deliciously random, and the 2025 season is far from a done deal, but boy, oh boy, do the Dodgers look like a steamroller at the outset.

George Steinbrenner owned the Yankees 38 years, from 1973 until his death in 2010. He was the longest-serving owner in club history, and the Yankees won seven World Series championships and 11 American League pennants under his ownership.

LA Dodgers now have four of the last eight NL pennants and two World Series titles (asterisk attached) in the 12 years since the Guggenheim Group took over in 2013.

Other teams could have done this 🤷‍♂️

Exactly correct. Other teams/owners cry poor instead of trying to win.

I have zero sympathy for them. If they can't or don't want to play the game the way it is being done today, then sell and get out.

Example: Pirates. They need hitting to go with that young rotation. Their payroll is like $75M. f*** them.

These takes are absolutely hilarious to me.  The Dodgers spend more because they have access to revenue streams substantially above almost every other team in baseball.  They spend more because they can without going into the red.  It fucking sucks for parity, but alas, the MLB could give two shits about trying to have a competitive product like the NFL.

Every team in MLB has access to more domestic and international revenue streams then ever before. More than enough to put good teams on the field.

The White Sox have more advantages for one example than every other team in the division. Yet because of their incompetence, dysfunction and ineptness they have squandered them.

It's not MLB's fault they are run by a miserly owner who seemingly has done everything possible to alienate his fan base.

Your response is hilarious to me.

And I again point out how many different teams have been to or won the World Series over the past 25 years.

I hate Reinsdorf as much, if not more, as you.  I think he is a terrible owner.  That doesn’t change the fact that the Dodgers’ revenue blows ours out of the water and we could never spend what they could on payroll.  Not having a real salary cap sucks and this is just another example of that.  If you have a problem with cheap owners, then argue for a salary floor…they aren’t mutually exclusive issues.

While not the Dodgers, the Sox should be a team with a revenue stream in the next bucket of teams.  Not the Yankees or Dodgers,  but why not the about Angels level as a 2nd team in in similarish metro area?  Why should the Padres be able to outspend us? Even being realistic,  we should be way higher.

I hope the Dodgers win every championship until the Sox are good again so I keep hearing how this is somehow good for the game.

Who cares?  Every other team can do the same thing.  Yes, some teams make more money than others, but keep thinking Jerry couldn’t go on a spending splurge if he truly wanted to, at least to a lesser extent than the Dodgers.

Remember how the Sox cut salary for the first rebuild and are now doing the same thing again?  I’m pretty sure they still haven’t spent all the money they saved from cutting so much salary during the first rebuild.

Beat me to it.  Exactly.  I read your post after I made mine.

There have been numerous rumors of the Sox dumping the contracts of Benintendi and Robert.  Meanwhile, the Dodgers sign a 32-year old outfielder for a higher AAV than both of our jabronis and we try to rationalize it.

Blame Jerry’s absolute fucking cheapness and greed, rather than rooting for a salary cap to keep down teams that actually want to win.  Teams that would rather sit back and collect profits are exactly where they should be, in the dumpster.

Meanwhile, Jerry doesn’t even try.  He endeavors for .500 seasons because that’s good enough for him.  Remember the quotes he has made about how coming in 2nd place is good?  I hope the Dodgers win every WS from now until eternity.  Maybe it will force cheap skate owners like Jerry to actually spend some money and try to compete.  But no, Jerry loves rebuilds because he gets to cash in on $60 to $70 million dollar payrolls.

Oh no doubt, but Jerry won’t spend the money up-front to build a best in class product.
