CWSpalehoseCWS
I wouldn't hate this. There plenty of innings to go around, and reunited with Bannister could make him a nice flippable candidate at the deadline.
WhiteSox2023
I can’t imagine a contending team won’t be willing to pay more money for Junis than the Sox. He’s been pretty good the past three years.

Getting guys in hope of flipping them at the trade deadline for a prospect is kinda like drinking Miller 64.
Chicago White Sox
Does anyone know why Junis dropped his slider usage rate from 62% in 2023 to 45% in 2024? Despite a drop in velocity across the board, it looks like his pitch mix changes are the biggest driver of his K rate dropping from 10.1 per 9 to 6.8 per 9. A guy like Junis should get you something at the deadline if healthy.

If the guy is good or really good, maybe the Sox should do something really crazy and keep him to help win some more games. When did winning games not become the goal; but instead, the goal became stocking the minors with players who MIGHT be good in a two or three years. 1

Unless Rojas, Slater and Tauchman go Super Saiyan to levels they never have, then he wouldn't be around for the next time the Sox are good.

But when someone basically posts “why is a team coming off the worst season in baseball history rebuilding instead of trying to win right now” I felt the need to be a bit more direct.

Do you really want to sign him to a 3+ year contract until he is 35+ years of age so he can help the next good Sox team? For the Sox, Junis would improve their bullpen in 2025 but mostly serve as a flip candidate. Chicago White Sox
I would definitely support this type of signing. Curious what the price would be here. He declined an $8M mutual option in exchange for a $3M buyout. Obviously there was no guarantee the Reds would have picked up their end of this even if he had accepted, but my guess is Junis thinks he can get $5M or more in free agency. FWIW, Fangraphs’ crowdsourcing projects him to get 1/$6M.

BamaDoc
Wonder if we think he could close? If he can that may maximize his value at trade deadline? I know , he might never see a save opportunity lol.

FT35
Why wouldn’t all the FAs want to sign here? If they are good, they are as good as out of here at the deadline and they know they will have shots with a playoff bound team. That seems better than signing with a team that should have a shot at contending but ends up not contending—but ends up keeping players who may contend another year. Seems like a great offer to top talent—if you want to play in the 2025 MLB playoffs—sign with the WHITE SOX!!

I wonder if paying them a good amount of money would help…soften the blow a little…like forever luxury living money for them and generations to come?? I loathe the idea of moving. Buuuut someone could probably talk me into moving somewhere for 6 months for say…25 MILLION DOLLARS EVERY YEAR for a half decade. I don’t know…I might check with my wife but something tells me she would ok that.

It’s not like the White Sox are going to pay him significantly more than a team planning to keep him the entire season. That would make them unflipable.
