caulfield12
If anyone is to blame for what some view as a Dodgers “spending problem,” it’s the other 29 MLB teams. There were more than enough free agents to go around in this winter’s cycle. Just about any team could have signed one or two of Snell, Conforto, Hernández, Yates, Kim or Scott, and a few teams doing so could’ve prevented L.A. from reaching such a stratospheric level of spending. Simply put, other teams signing free agents means those free agents can’t join the Dodgers and help them get even better. ..... Could the other teams in baseball have done more to prevent them from getting stronger? Absolutely. Should they have beaten the Dodgers last year when they had the chance? Probably. https://sports.yahoo.com/the-dodgers-are-going-to-be-even-better-this-year--and-the-other-29-mlb-teams-have-only-themselves-to-blame-171842188.html Edited February 14 by caulfield12

caulfield12
https://www.mlb.com/news/hyeseong-kim-to-play-multiple-positions-in-spring-training "He has the ingredients to be great," (hitting coach Aaron) Bates said. "It's just kind of fine-tuning things. Obviously, he was a great player in Korea and has all the components, so it's just making some tweaks here and there. All the while, letting him play and play free, mentally." GLENDALE, Ariz. -- When it comes to first impressions of Hyeseong Kim, the Dodgers have been fairly consistent in their descriptions. "He's a lot stronger than I expected," manager Dave Roberts said. "I think he's one of the [lowest] body fat guys in our camp." "He’s fast, he’s athletic," first baseman Freddie Freeman said a few days later. "I’ve heard he’s got the lowest body-fat percentage on our team." Kim is used to others bringing up his physical fitness; his former teammates in the KBO said the same. But don't let the reports of his skill with the glove be lost in all the chatter. ..... "I think that he can certainly win ballgames with his defense alone," Roberts said. "Then the question is the development part. What's good for him? What's good for the Dodgers? And that, we don't have to answer right now."

caulfield12
Dave Roberts on what American fans can learn from Japanese fans In speaking with MLB.com, Roberts stated: “I really hope the people in the States learn from the people in Japan, how they treat people…” “In Japan, there’s just a lot of respect, and people are kind. And for us to go over there into their country, I’m very honored. Very honored.” Dodgers infielder Max Muncy echoed his manager’s thoughts, adding recently, “The Japanese culture as a whole, it’s so different from how we are over here that I’m really looking forward to just seeing everything.” “This is one of the most exciting Opening Days I’ve ever had — from a player to a coach to a manager — opening up the season in Tokyo,” Roberts said. “My aunts, my uncles, my cousins are all gonna be able to see. I love the country of Japan. And obviously, with the three Japanese players that we have, just to see how we are received, I’m very excited about.” Edited March 13 by caulfield12

caulfield12
“We're proactive about identifying teams that have locally born Japanese players on the roster, so that when we come over there, there is a real connection with the local fan base.” With this in mind, he adds that the league’s settled status in Japan made MLB’s selection of the Dodgers and the Cubs for the international series simple. “I think, a whole host of factors go into the ultimate final selection. You have to look at team interest, there's a lot of travel involved, so you’ve got to see what spring training schedules and player development cycles look like. “But, we landed on those two teams because they were super interested in being in the market and coming to Japan to bring their brand and their team to Japan, and they both have a great stable of local Japanese players that I think helps tell the story once you're on the ground.” … “In Japan, baseball is already the most popular sport. The NPB is the most popular league, followed by MLB right behind it, so it's not an awareness play. It's really around creating deeper engagement and creating new opportunities for fans to engage. “So what you're going to see [around the Tokyo Series] is still locally driven, for example we're going to be activating in Tokyo at the Sky Tree [monument], and that's really about reaching [a]broader [fanbase] and creating an experience for them to take pictures, be a part of the game, etc.” This desire for a wide array of touchpoints for the league in Japan extends to its broadcast makeup, which is similarly diverse. Distribution of MLB’s media rights in Japan is handled by major rights agency Dentsu in an eight-year partnership that will run through the 2028 campaign and could reportedly be worth more than $60 million per year. The league is broadcast by pan-Asian broadcaster SPOTV which holds MLB rights across the region, and recently the Prime Video service secured broadcast rights for the Tokyo Series and associated games. https://www.sportcal.com/features/big-in-japan-how-mlb-is-swinging-for-the-fences-in-the-asian-market/?cf-view Edited March 18 by caulfield12
