vilehoopster
So, listening to REKAP podcast, and someone asked if Thorpe would be ready for spring training, and (I think) McGuffey answered that he heard or he thought that Thrope was TBD for spring training. Had anyone heard that? I had no idea. I thought that shutting him down and the elbow thing done, that he would be completely ready by spring. I saw this and thought he was good for spring. What happened? This is from CBS Sports, Dec. 11: White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Wednesday that Thorpe (elbow) is going through his normal offseason throwing program and expected to be 100 percent for spring training, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Thorpe underwent surgery in early September to remove a bone spur in his right elbow but has apparently already made a full recovery. So what went wrong?? Expand The Sox have a pretty good history of pitchers that they say will be "fine" and it turns out they aren't. Just recently Dunning and Rodon come to mind. Like a poster once wrote, (sorry I don't remember who) "I always assume the worst when it comes to injuries until shown otherwise..." Pretty good words to live by when it comes to the Sox medical, training and conditioning staffs.

Expand Unfortunately, no medical procedure or rehab is guaranteed or linear in process. It could very well be that after taking the recovery time, he is just building up the arm and he won't pitch early on. What they were able to do with Crochet was ground breaking and an outstanding achievement. It's worth keeping an eye on.

Buehrle>Wood
Remember when Davis Martin on the last day of the season got pulled walking off holding his elbow and everyone just assumed he was going under for TJ? But then he showed up for Spring Training? And then lasted 1 day at spring Training and promptly went under the knife for TJ?

Expand If they sold high, it's a three player deal with one of the Red Sox Top 3 guys...the injury concerns have to be considered with Montgomery to some extent. That said...he doesn't seem to be the type of player who has to rely on outfielder speed like a Jared Mitchell. (and yes completely different injuries) It was a fair trade but not a steal either unless you are getting a potential future star...but much better than Cease (unless Zavala and Thorpe somehow both stick). I for one, do not trust he being healthy. Expand It's very possible. After talking to some people involved, I'm more optimistic that he can carry it over without significant issues. However, it is so different than previous plans with pitchers that while it makes sense l, it is ground breaking so who knows. My biggest questions is if boston will continue to follow through with the plan. We know the Sox had a plan with sale and Boston didn't follow through and sale got injured relatively quickly.
