caulfield12
Hopefully they corner the market on Gatorade baths... That is not how things have played out. Moncada slumped to a .225/.320/.385 showing in 2020. That looked like a short-season aberration the following year, as he posted a strong .263/.375/.412 slash across 144 games. Moncada’s bat hit another sharp decline thereafter. He combined for a .234/.288/.386 line in nearly 800 plate appearances over the next two seasons. His final year in Chicago was tanked by injury. Moncada suffered a significant left adductor (groin) strain two weeks into the year. He was immediately ruled out for 3-6 months. Moncada didn’t return to the active roster until the middle of September. By that point, the White Sox were playing out the string on the worst season in modern history. It was a foregone conclusion that they’d buy Moncada out for $5MM instead of a $25MM club option. The Sox had little reason to put him back in the lineup. He only made one appearance as a pinch-runner in the final two weeks. His season ended with 12 games and 45 plate appearances. mlbtraderumors.com Edited February 7 by caulfield12

Moncada is potentially worth much more than $5m, but realistically is likely a minor league player. I hope he stays healthy and plays well, overperforms that deal, i think he’s a guy you want to see succeed. But the probability of that seems….unlikely

greg775
Who would have thought that for the 2025 season the Sox coulda had a SS in Anderson and 3B in Moncada for pennies. Arguably even with both having a lot to prove, they'd be a better SS/3B combo for the Sox this season than the stiffs at 3B and SS they'll be playing on Opening Day. Good riddance. Regarding his signing with the Angels, I'm of two minds on this: *He'll play his usual 50 games or so, foul a ball off his foot and have to sit out two weeks, pull a hamstring running to first, or check his swing and fracturing a rib... something along those lines. *Or because he's away from the dysfunction and ineptness of the Sox, he'll actually stay healthy and have a decent to good season which would be so very White Sox-like.

Expand The Sox already paid Moncada $5 million to go away. They were not going to pay him another $5 million to come back, and rightfully so. I hope he has a good year in LA, but he was all but useless after 2021. Way too many injuries, and his power disappeared. As far as Anderson, see ya. He became a head case with too many off field issues that certainly affected his on field performance. Hopefully he gets his s%*# straightened out and plays well. The Angels could have a nice left side of the infield for 2025, but a lot of stuff needs to go right. The Sox have about 10 guys to fill those same two spots, and I'd be willing to bet whatever combination of players that ends up there will have comparable numbers (or better) to TA and Yoan. 2
